Eyelash Extension Tips for Summer

Eyelash Extension Tips for Summer

Eyelash Extension Tips for Summer

June 6, 2023 by The Lash Professional.

Summer and lash extensions are two of our favorite things. With the opportunity to fully relax in the warm, bright sun, we think it’s safe to say that summer is finally in full swing!

We can’t get enough lash extensions and summer! To us, summertime means long sunny days, typically spent outside being active or lounging in or next to the pool, lake, or river. It means warm nights gathered around the grill, barbecue, or bonfire, and weekend camp-outs with friends. What’s not to love about summer?

The expert team at The Lash Professional believes that the invention and growing popularity of lash extensions is one of the best trends to grace the beauty industry that’s here to stay. One of the reasons that we, and our clients, love lashes so much is that it’s an overall low maintenance option to “get up and go” with little or no additional make-up needed. We have never been as happy to ditch that annoying, runny mascara as we are when the sun comes out and everything starts heating up!

It’s important to keep in mind that your lashes may require a new level of maintenance to handle the summer heat. You may have questions like, “How will the heat affect my lashes? or “Can you go swimming with lash extensions?” Let’s discuss a few extension tips that will answer these questions and help you maintain your luscious lash extensions all summer long.

In the summer heat, maintain your lash allure with expert tips from The Lash Professional.

5 Extension Tips For Summer Lashes

While we love the summer, it can be difficult to know how to best maintain your lash extensions. We’ve compiled a list of the best extension tips to keep your lashes protected and looking great for longer.

Swimming with Lashes

One of our favorite ways to cool off from the summer heat is to head to the pool! You may be wondering, “Can you swim with lash extensions?” The simple answer is yes! However, both chlorine and saltwater can affect lash retention time. So, whether you are swimming in a pool, lake, or the ocean, we recommend rinsing with fresh water post-swim and then combing through your lashes with a reusable lash wand or patting (not rubbing!) them dry to remove excess water.

Avoid Direct Heat

While we love to bask in the summer sun, the extreme heat it brings can be damaging to your lash extensions. Exposing your lashes to this extreme heat can “relax” the curl, or even worse, singe the lashes! When grilling or snuggling up next to that toasty campfire, make sure not to stand too close or directly over the heat to keep your lashes intact and looking beautiful!

Summer = More Sweat

It’s pretty impossible to run around in the sun and not sweat. Unfortunately, sweat carries natural oils from your skin that can run into your eyes and affect lash retention. Here at The Lash Professional, we strongly believe in the benefits of exercise and “sweating it out.” However, to combat the effects of that sweat on your lashes, we recommend using a towel or sweatband when hitting the gym. In extreme sweating situations (such as hot yoga), rinse lashes post-workout with fresh water.

Keep Your Lashes Clean

Being outside more — camping, hiking, swimming, etc. — can lead to increased dirt and debris collecting in your lashes. We recommend keeping your extensions clean by rinsing them in the shower, allowing the water to pass through. For a deeper clean, consider using our foaming lash cleanser and super gentle eyelash extension brush regularly. This extension tip will have your lashes looking fresh and new for a longer time.

Applying Sunscreen

Our last but certainly not least extension tip is all about protecting your skin! We firmly believe in the use of sunscreen. It is an absolute must for all of your favorite summer activities. However, it is important to keep in mind that many sunscreen contain oils that can lead to excessive lash shedding. We recommend taking extra care when applying your SPF by avoiding the eye area and allowing it to fully soak in before swimming or sweating.

7 Aftercare Tips for Lash Extensions to Share with Your Clients

7 Aftercare Tips for Lash Extensions to Share with Your Clients

7 Aftercare Tips for Lash Extensions to Share with Your Clients

March 12, 2018 by The Lash Professional.

We see a lot of articles directed toward lash extension clients, but where do lash artists turn for information? Proper eyelash extension aftercare is imperative to your client’s retention as well as your professional reputation! So here is the lash artist’s guide to lash aftercare! These proper eyelash extension aftercare rules are fairly universal and tend to remain the same regardless of your adhesive or application style! You’ll want to ensure you are educating every single one of your clients on these practices.

Eyelash Extension Aftercare Rules To Follow

These seven lash aftercare instructions are vital to disclose to your lash clients. You want their lashes to great and beautiful for as long as possible, right? These eyelash extension care instructions will help clients to maintain the gorgeous lash job you did!

It may even be worth it to hand out a physical paper copy of these eyelash extension care aftercare instructions so clients can refer back to them between appointments. Print the instructions on a cute colored paper and send clients home with them to educate them on proper lash aftercare.

Here are seven rules to follow after getting eyelash extensions.

1. Wash Lashes Daily

Washing daily is, by far, the most important eyelash extension aftercare instruction. Yet, washing daily seems to be the step that clients forget the most! You cannot stress this to your lash lovers enough. Wash, wash, and wash!

Encouraging your clients to wash their lashes daily ensures they remain clean and clear of debris or products containing oil. Have them keep their eyelash extension clean with The Lash Professional’s Foaming Lash Cleanser!

2. Avoid Moisture

If you don’t use a nano mister, you should let each client know that they will need to wait 24 hours before introducing any form of moisture to their eyelash extensions! This is a long time for some clients to avoid a hot shower or a hot yoga class! Make sure they are aware of this prior to their service so they can plan accordingly.

Introducing water molecules to their eyelash extensions too soon could cause their lashes to fall out almost immediately. Investing in The Lash Professional Booster is a great way to reduce that time frame for clients. The Booster will knock a solid 20 hours off of that 24 hour waiting period! Clients will only need to wait 4 hours to introduce moisture.

3. Avoid Oil Around Lashes

This eyelash extension aftercare tip is essential. Avoiding oil based products means ALL oil based products. You’ll even want to let your clients know that oil based products can cause retention issues.

4. Avoid Touching/Rubbing Lashes

Touching eyelash extensions or rubbing your eyes can be a totally sub-conscious tendency. Some clients even rub their eyes in their sleep. Let each client know that doing so will cause their lash extensions to prematurely fall out. The oils or lotions from their hands will break down the adhesive causing them to come in for lash fills much more often –– which, in this case, is NOT a good thing!

5. Avoid Sleeping on Lashes

This is a tricky eyelash extension aftercare rule. I can honestly admit, I am a face sleeper; I’ll never not be a face sleeper. Face sleepers are easily identifiable, though. If you have a client with lashes that are going every-which direction, and no I don’t mean curly lashes –– that is a completely different situation –– there is a good chance they are a face sleeper! Especially if only one eye has crazy lashes (their dominant face-sleep side).

This is a good thing to note in their client profile. Quite often, these clients will come back and say they have no idea how, but they lost so many lashes on the outer corners or only on one eye! Well, if you’ve noted it in their profile, you will have the answer for them! “YOU ARE A FACE SLEEPER!”

If your clients can avoid sleeping directly on their lashes, great! If your clients cannot avoid doing so, it is best to make them well aware that it will cause retention issues. This way, they will walk away with realistic retention and eyelash extension aftercare expectations. Suggest they use a satin/silk pillowcase to make the night less treacherous on their extensions!

6. Avoid Extreme Heat

I have literally had clients come to me with seared eyelashes. It’s almost comical. They’ve either gotten way too close to the soufflé in the oven or a candle! These seem like very obvious issues. But, for those clients who have never had to be careful around heat, this may be a good talking point BEFORE it happens. Clients who are new to lash extensions have never had to worry about their natural lashes shriveling up near heat. Just make sure you address this lash aftercare rule before they come in thinking their lashes are randomly melting.

7. Avoid Chemical Peels and Facials

Unless we dissect each and every chemical and product and ingredient, there is no way for us to know whether or not chemical peels and procedures will cause retention issues for our clients. The best course of action, if a client asks, is to completely avoid the eye area. This will ensure nothing seeps into that lash line, as I mentioned earlier!

Knowing everything there is to know about eyelash extension aftercare and retention will come with experience. But, you might as well educate yourself as much as possible in the meantime! Your clients will be impressed and remain loyal to their “all lash-knowing” artist! And placing our Eyelash Extension Aftercare Kit to encourage more sales and happy lashes is always a good idea.

It wouldn’t hurt to have something to give clients to make sure they are keeping up with their lovely lashes! Check out our “Freebies” for a downloadable lash aftercare template highlighting these rules!

How to Make Your Lash Extensions Last

How to Make Your Lash Extensions Last

How to: Make Your Lash Extensions Last: A Guide for Lash Artists

February 18, 2021 by The Lash Professional.

Let’s talk about one of the most common questions every lash artist hears: "How do I make my lash extensions last?" As an experienced lash artist I know the secret to keeping clients happy is great lash retention.

Lash retention isn’t just about using a good adhesive (though that’s super important). It’s also about technique, client education, and a little extra attention to detail. Let’s dive into everything you need to know to help your clients walk out of your studio with flawless extensions that last.

Why Lash Retention Matters

First things first—why is retention such a big deal? Simple. If your clients’ lashes last longer, they’re happier, and happy clients = repeat business + glowing referrals.

Great retention also reflects on your skill as a lash artist. It shows that you’re not just applying lashes but taking the time to ensure they stay put until the next fill.

Top Tips for Better Lash Retention

Here’s how to make sure those lash extensions stay flawless for as long as possible:

1. Perfect Your Isolation Technique

Proper isolation is the foundation of great lash retention. When natural lashes aren’t fully isolated:

-Extensions can stick together, causing discomfort and premature shedding.

-Adhesive doesn’t bond as effectively, leading to poor retention.

Pro Tip: Use high-quality tweezers, like the ones from The Lash Professional, to ensure precise isolation every time.

2. Use the Right Adhesive for Your Environment

Humidity and temperature can affect how well your adhesive works. For example:

-Low Humidity: Choose an adhesive with a slower drying time.

-High Humidity: Opt for a faster-drying adhesive.

Keep a hygrometer in your workspace to monitor your environment, and always use adhesive that suits your conditions.

3. Prep Lashes Like a Pro

Retention starts before you even apply the first extension. Make sure the natural lashes are squeaky clean:

-Use a lash cleanser to remove any oils, makeup, or residue.

-Apply a primer to create a clean base for the adhesive to bond.

Pro Tip: Teach your clients the importance of arriving with clean lashes. No makeup or oily products near the eyes before their appointment!

4. Apply the Right Amount of Adhesive

Less is more when it comes to adhesive. Too much can:

-Weigh down the lashes.

-Cause clumping.

-Lead to poor bonding.

Dip only the base of the extension into the adhesive and avoid overloading your lash.

5. Choose the Correct Lash Length and Diameter

Using extensions that are too long or thick can stress the natural lash, causing premature fallout. Stick to this general rule:

-Extensions should be no more than double longer than the natural lash.

-Use lightweight diameters (like 0.03mm to 0.07mm) for volume fans.

6. Educate Your Clients on Aftercare

Your work doesn’t end when the client leaves the chair! Proper aftercare is crucial for retention. Share these tips with your clients:

-Avoid Water for 24 Hours: Let the adhesive fully cure before exposing lashes to water.

-Skip Oil-Based Products: Oil breaks down adhesive, so stick to water-based cleansers and makeup.

-Brush Daily: Use a clean spoolie to keep lashes untangled and in place.

-Avoid Rubbing or Pulling: Be gentle with your lashes to prevent damage.

Pro Tip: Send your clients home with a care card and a lash cleanser.

Troubleshooting Common Retention Issues

If your clients are experiencing retention issues, it might be time to troubleshoot. Here are a few things to check:

1. Are Lashes Prepped Properly?

Make sure natural lashes are completely free of oil and debris before applying extensions.

2. Is the Adhesive Fresh?

Adhesive has a short shelf life—usually 4-6 weeks after opening. Keep it fresh by storing it in a cool, dry place.

3. Are You Using the Right Application Angle?

Extensions should be applied at the correct angle to the natural lash for maximum bonding.

4. Are Clients Following Aftercare?

Retention isn’t 100% on you. Remind clients that their aftercare routine plays a big role in how long their extensions last.

FAQs About Lash Retention

1. How Long Should Lash Extensions Last?

With proper application and aftercare, lash extensions should last 4-6 weeks. Most clients will need fills every 2-3 weeks.

2. Can Lash Extensions Last Longer Than 6 Weeks?

It’s possible, but factors like the client’s lash growth cycle and aftercare habits will determine longevity.

3. What’s the Best Way to Improve Retention?

Focus on clean lashes, proper isolation, and using the right adhesive for your environment.

Final Thoughts on How to Make Your Lash Extensions Last

Retention is everything in the lash world. By perfecting your technique, using high-quality products, and educating your clients, you’ll create sets that last longer and keep your clients coming back for more.

Remember, it’s not just about sticking lashes on—it’s about building trust and showing your clients that you care about their lash health and happiness. With a little effort and the right tools (thank you, The Lash Professional!), you can slay the retention game like a pro.

What are Mega Volume Lashes?

What are Mega Volume Lashes?

What are Mega Volume Lashes?

December 21, 2021 by The Lash Professional.

Have you ever heard of mega volume lashes? These lashes are often used to create ultra-dramatic lash looks for those in love with super full lashes. However, you may have a few questions about this lash style, such as:

  • What is mega volume?
  • Is mega volume just volume with a fancy new name?
  • Are mega volume lashes safe?
  • Are mega volume lashes damaging to natural lashes?

There are so many questions around mega volume that haven’t been answered, but rest assured, I’m here to break them down for you. We know how important it is to know everything you can about what’s going on in your industry! So here it is, lash artist — mega volume lashes.

Mega Volume Lashes vs. Volume Lashes

Mega volume lashes are very similar to the traditional volume lashes we know. However, they have a minor difference that sets them apart when it comes to lash styles.

The difference between mega volume and traditional volume is how many lash extensions are being used to create the fan and the diameter of the extensions in the fan. A set of traditional volume lashes uses .07 extensions to create a fan with up to 5 lash extensions. Mega volume sets use . .03 lash extensions to create a fan with up to 20 lash extensions. With mega volume, you can apply up to 20 extensions on one natural lash!

Are Mega Volume Lashes Safe?

This is a totally valid question! Luckily, the answer is yes. Just like every other style of lash extensions, mega volume lashes are safe for your natural lashes — as long as they’re applied correctly. And let’s not forget about proper aftercare once those beautiful lashes have been applied.

We’ll break down the safest way to apply mega volume lashes so you can ensure natural lashes are protected during the process!

Being Mega Safe

Just like classic and traditional volume lashes, mega volume lash extensions are safe for natural lashes if the extensions are applied correctly. Do you know what is considered a properly applied set of lashes?

Proper Isolation is Key

First, and most importantly, proper isolation is a must with mega volume lashes. It’s a non-negotiable part of any set of lash extensions. If lashes aren’t properly isolated, the extensions and natural lashes will all stick together. This will cause pain for your lash client and also ruin their natural lashes.

Oh, and it won’t look good! Without proper isolation, you will have a difficult time retaining lash clientele. Who wants to get their lashes done by someone who causes them pain? The saying “beauty is pain” shouldn’t apply to this one.

Choose the Right Adhesive

Also, for a proper set of lashes (classic, traditional volume, or mega volume), you need to use the correct amount of lash adhesive. Lash adhesive adds weight, so if you use too much not only will the extensions and natural lashes all stick together, but you will be adding excessive weight. Additional weight can cause natural lash breakage and poor retention.

Nope, we don’t want that.

Don’t Weigh Down Lashes

Lastly, a fan of extensions shouldn’t be too heavy. The weight of the fan is important for long-lasting lashes, avoiding breaking the natural lash, and avoiding the lash extensions from drooping. Mega volume lashes are no different! But, mega volume does take a little more calculation on your end to figure out the weight.

Don’t worry, I’m not talking calculus, just basic math. To do this basic lash math, you just need to know the lash weight of each diameter you are using to create the fan. By knowing that, you will know how many extensions you can put into your fans to keep your client’s natural lashes healthy and strong.

Achieve Symmetry and Balance

Was learning the volume lash technique challenging for you? I remember learning volume and how frustrating it was. Your hands are used to doing it one way, and now you have to adjust. A majority of volume lash artists use .07 lash extensions and that diameter is awesome. It gives you that dark lash line with a little fluff. When doing mega volume lash extensions, you have to use a much thinner lash extension, .03.

There are some adjustments you’ll have to make to be able to pick up these ultra-thin lashes and create a perfectly symmetrical fan, but you’ll get it!

Symmetrical fans are important in traditional volume lashing, as you know, and even MORE important in mega volume. Creating a fan where the extensions are equally spaced will not only give you a beautiful look, but it will also create a weight balance. A weight balance will give your clients great retention and keep their natural lashes healthy and strong. Weight balance will also give them a beautiful set of lash extensions. Who doesn’t want that?

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last? – Everything You Need to Know

November 27, 2018 by The Lash Professional.

One of the top questions I get asked as a lash artist is: "How long do eyelash extensions last?" It’s a totally valid question because, let’s be real, we all want those dreamy, fluttery lashes to stick around as long as possible.

As a lash artist I’m here to spill the tea on lash retention and what you (and your clients) need to know to make those extensions last. Whether you’re a lash newbie or a seasoned pro, let’s dive into the details!

The Lifespan of Eyelash Extensions

So, how long do eyelash extensions last? Typically, lash extensions last 4 to 6 weeks. But here’s the thing—this lifespan depends on a few key factors:

1. The Natural Lash Growth Cycle

Your natural lashes grow and shed in cycles, which is why extensions don’t last forever. The average lash has a growth cycle of about 60 to 90 days, and extensions fall out as your natural lashes shed.

2. Application Quality

Proper technique is EVERYTHING. When applied correctly, extensions bond securely to the natural lash and shed naturally with it.

3. Aftercare Routine

How clients care for their lashes post-appointment plays a huge role in retention. The better the aftercare, the longer those lashes will last.

What Affects How Long Lash Extensions Last?

Let’s break down the factors that can influence retention:

1. Lash Artist Skill

If extensions aren’t applied with proper isolation or if too much adhesive is used, they won’t last as long.

Pro Tip: Use high-quality adhesives, like the ones from The Lash Professional, for maximum hold and retention.

2. Adhesive Type and Environment

Humidity and temperature can impact how well the adhesive cures. Lash artists should always use an adhesive suited to their workspace conditions.

3. Natural Lash Health

Clients with strong, healthy natural lashes tend to experience better retention than those with weak or damaged lashes.

4. Client Lifestyle

Activities like swimming, working out, or using oil-based products can shorten the lifespan of lash extensions.

How to Make Lash Extensions Last Longer

Want to help your clients get the most out of their extensions? Share these tips with them:

1. Follow the 24-Hour Rule

Avoid water, steam, and heavy sweating for the first 24 hours after application. This allows the adhesive to fully cure.

2. Keep Lashes Clean

Encourage clients to cleanse their lashes daily using a lash-safe cleanser. This removes oil, makeup, and debris that can weaken the adhesive bond.

Pro Tip: Offer lash aftercare kits with cleanser and spoolies to keep clients on track.

3. Avoid Oil-Based Products

Oil is a lash extension’s worst enemy! Oil-based makeup removers and skincare products can break down the adhesive.

4. Brush Lashes Daily

Clients should gently brush their lashes with a lash brush to keep them fluffy laying straight.

How Often Do Clients Need Fills?

To keep lash extensions looking their best, clients should book fills every 2 to 3 weeks. Fills replace any extensions that have shed and keep the set looking full and fabulous.

Pro Tip for Lash Artists: Schedule your clients’ fill appointments before they leave the studio. This keeps their lashes on point and your calendar full!

Signs It’s Time for a Fill

Clients will know it’s time for a fill if:

Lashes are starting to look sparse.

Extensions are shedding unevenly.

They notice gaps in their lash line.

FAQs About Lash Extension Lifespan

1. Can Extensions Last Longer Than 6 Weeks?

It’s possible, but unlikely. Extensions naturally shed with the client’s lashes, and the average lash growth cycle limits how long they can stay in place.

2. Why Do Some Clients Lose Lashes Faster?

Retention can vary due to factors like lash health, lifestyle, or even sleeping positions. Side and stomach sleepers may notice more lash fallout.

3. How Do I Improve Retention as a Lash Artist?

Focus on proper isolation, adhesive application, and educating your clients about aftercare. High-quality products like those from The Lash Professional can also make a big difference.

Final Thoughts on How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last

So, how long do eyelash extensions last? With proper application and care, they can last up to 4 to 6 weeks, keeping your clients looking and feeling fabulous. As a lash artist, it’s your job to master the techniques and educate your clients to ensure they get the most out of their extensions.

Remember, great retention isn’t just about making lashes last—it’s about building trust and creating a loyal client base.

Here’s to long-lasting lashes and happy clients!

Eyelash Extensions Pros and Cons From Experts

Eyelash Extensions Pros and Cons From Experts

Eyelash Extensions Pros and Cons From Experts

December 21, 2018 by The Lash Professional.

Everyone seems to be talking about lash extensions: family, friends, coworkers, and of course, celebrities! Lash extensions are tempting, and you’re probably wondering whether or not you should give them a try. If you’re wondering whether lash extensions are for you or not, there’s no better way to find out than by asking the experts!

Who Should Consider Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are perfect if you:

-Want to Simplify Your Routine: Extensions eliminate the need for mascara, curling, or strip lashes.

-Love a Polished Look: They instantly elevate your appearance, even without makeup.

-Have a Busy Lifestyle: Whether you’re a busy professional, a mom, or a student, extensions save you time.

-Want Customizable Styles: From subtle to dramatic, extensions can be tailored to your vibe.

Eyelash Extension Pros

Enhance Your Natural Beauty

The lash pros at Chic Lash Boutique explain how lash extensions can enhance your facial features and give you a natural glow.

“Extensions lift your eyes naturally by lengthening the lashes with no possibility of adverse effects, as in the case of surgical procedures. They also add depth to your face, resulting in enhanced features to make you look more youthful and graceful.” Chic Lash Boutique is located in Houston, Texas.

Light as Feather

Say goodbye to falsies! Stacy Lash and Skin talks about the weightless and natural feel of lash extensions:

“Unlike fake lashes, you get all the drama without the drag. Fake lashes use heavier hard-drying adhesives while lash extension adhesives are light and non-gunky. There’s no clumping and practically no weight.” Stacy Lash and Skin is a spa located in Los Angeles, California.

Customizable Lash Extensions

The talented team at Wakeup Beauty Salon shares the customizable and versatile options that lash extensions offer:

“You can help determine things such as length, fullness, and even permanent color. Adjust the volume and shape of them so that they best match your aesthetic when you look in the mirror every day.” Wakeup Beauty Salon is a full-service salon in California.

Fabulous Look, Minimal Effort – Simplify Your Makeup Routine

No more mascara, no more time-consuming makeup routines! See what Flume Glam Bar has to say about how lash extensions will make your life easier:

“When applied properly, your eyes will look amazing 24/7 with or without makeup. Your lashes will be long and lush, will beautifully accentuate your eyes and many women feel they need less makeup when they have lash extensions.” Fluhme Glam Bar has three locations in Pennsylvania.

Anyone Can Benefit From Lash Extensions

The trained technicians at Lash Out explain how all types of natural lashes can benefit from lash extensions:

“Individual Eyelash Extensions are perfect for thin natural lashes that need volume and fullness, shorter natural lashes that need length, and straight natural lashes that require a curl to lift and frame your face.” Lash Out Beauty Bar is located in Naples, Florida.

Eyelash Extension Cons

Lengthy Lashes Can Mean Lengthy Application Sessions

Good things take time, and fabulous lash extensions are no exception! Here’s what The W Spa has to say about application sessions:

“Appointments for Lash Extensions can take anywhere from 1-2 hours, and if you want to keep up with them you need to come in every 2-4 weeks.” The W Spa is a luxury organic spa in New York.

Say Bye Bye To Oils

If oil-based products are part of your facial routine, this point by Princess Lashes might be important for you.

“[Avoid] Oil-based makeup, oil-based cleanser and oil-based make up remover for wetting your eyelashes. The reason for this is that oil-based products can break the semi-permanent glue causing lashes to fall out prematurely and may remove them instantly. “ Princess Lashes is a Luxury Eyelash Extension Salon in Wisconsin.

Preserving Your Lash Extensions Requires Touch-ups

The lash artists at Sinful Lashes share what preserving your lash extensions entails:

“After your initial set of eyelash extensions, you will receive instructions on how to care for them. Fills are done every three to four weeks depending on care and how quickly your eyelashes grow. An eyelash extension fill takes a shorter time to do and the prices reflect that.” The Sinful Lashes Company is a Lash Salon in Studio City, California.

Keep Your Lashes Dry for 48 Hours

No water around your eyes, no steam, and no facials. Amazing Lash Studio tells you how to keep your fab new lashes intact for the first 48 hours.

“Minimize the chance of wetting the extensions for the first 48 hours of wear. After that 48-hour period, the adhesive used to apply your eyelash extensions is secure enough to allow you to get right back to your routine. However, keeping away from extensive contact with steam such as in saunas or certain facials is recommended since it can begin to loosen the bond.” Amazing Lash Studio offers its services at several locations worldwide.

What to Consider Before Getting Eyelash Extensions

While extensions are amazing, they’re not for everyone. Here are some things to think about:

1. Commitment to Maintenance

Extensions require regular fills every 2-3 weeks to stay looking full. You’ll also need to follow aftercare guidelines, like avoiding oil-based products and cleansing your lashes daily.

2. Lash Health

If your natural lashes are very short or weak, extensions may not be the best option until your lash health improves. (Pro tip: Use a lash serum to strengthen your lashes before getting extensions!)

3. Cost

Extensions are an investment. Prices vary depending on your location and the type of set, so make sure it fits your budget.

4. Finding a Skilled Lash Artist

Choosing the right artist is key. Look for someone certified, experienced, and knowledgeable about lash health.

Final Thoughts: Should You Get Eyelash Extensions?

So, should you do it? If you’re looking for a confidence boost, a low-maintenance beauty routine, or a way to elevate your look, eyelash extensions are absolutely worth it.

Remember, the key to loving your extensions is choosing the right artist, following aftercare, and knowing what to expect. If you’re ready to try extensions, find a professional who uses products they trust—your lashes deserve the best!

At one time, false eyelash strips were exclusively used for glam makeup statements or perhaps prom night. Now, however, eyelash extensions give women a flawless day-to-day look that ranges from flirty “girl next door” to a bold night out on the town. But, similar to any other beauty trend, it’s normal to ask: How do eyelash extensions work anyway?

What are eyelash extensions?

Before we go into how eyelash extensions work, we will start with the basics. What are eyelash extensions? Put simply, eyelash extensions are thin fibers that resemble natural eyelashes. Using semi-permanent adhesive, these thin fibers are attached to each natural eyelash giving a lengthened and thicker appearance of each lash. And, spoiler alert! They look amazing.

Eyelash extensions are typically made of a synthetic fiber.  Synthetic extensions are most common because they hold their curl and have a natural black sheen that is unbeatable.

How do eyelash extensions work?

The first step of getting your lashes done is selecting the best eyelash curl, diameter and length according to your eye shape and desired look. Don’t worry — your eyelash technician will do this for you! Next, while laying on your back, an experienced licensed eyelash technician will place protective pads over your lower lashes and under eyes and have you close your eyes.

Using eyelash extension tweezers, your lash artist will take a single eyelash extension, apply adhesive, and place carefully on one of your natural lashes one millimeter from the lash line. If you opt for volume lashes the process will only differ slightly. Rather than applying just one extension to each lash, your lash artist will first glue a few synthetic lashes together to create a fan. From here, the same process as noted above will be used.

How do I get eyelash extensions?

Now, onto the most important question – how can I get my own eyelash extensions? Thankfully, whichever city you find yourself in, there are most likely plenty of options for you! When selecting your lash artist, be sure to look for someone who is licensed and has adequate experience. You can either find a lash artist who works independently or a technician that works as an extension of a salon. If you want to go to the experts, you can even go to a lash studio that specializes in lashes!

Just remember to do your research and pay attention to reviews. Even if you see someone who has cheaper pricing, remember – you get what you pay for!

How to Care for Red Eyes After Eyelash Extensions

How to Care for Red Eyes After Eyelash Extensions

How to: Care for Red Eyes After Eyelash Extensions

February 18, 2021 by The Lash Professional.

As eyelash extension technicians, we hold a high responsibility to care for our clients and ensure their overall health and happiness. For this reason, there are several procedures and safety measures, like using sensitive eyelash glue, put in place. However, working in such a delicate area, there are bound to be the occasional mishap.

Red eyes can occur from a number of reasons – allergic reactions, low-quality lash extension primers, harsh lash glue, poor lash salon hygiene, and more. Your job as a lash artist is to foresee the potential issues and proactively care for them.

Get ahead of the curve! Before a panicked client calls you at some ungodly hour, learn how to care for red eyes after eyelash extensions with these simple tips. Give your client the best care with these tips for red eyes after eyelash extensions.

Administer immediate care

First and foremost, if the client is complaining of irritation or burning sensation while in the salon, get ahead of the potential ramifications and administer immediate care. Comfort the client and reassure them that this is a reaction that can be cared for. Next, provide the client with a cold compress to soothe the irritated area. The cold compress is more or less a band-aid solution for red eyes after eyelash extensions; however, it will comfort the client as the healing process begins.

Advice for short-term care

It may take several hours or even days for red eyes to heal after the initial irritation. To increase client comfort during the healing process topical creams like cortisone cream and Benadryl can be used to manage symptoms. For many, the combination of cold compresses, cortisone cream, and Benadryl is just what they need to bounce back to their former selves.

Seek professional help

In most cases, allergy eye drops, cold compresses, Benadryl, and topical creams should resolve the clients red eyes. However, if the red eyes persist longer than two to three days or for extreme reactions the client should seek professional help from a doctor. In addition, you could offer a complimentary lash removal when the reaction has calmed down.

Take responsibility for your client’s wellbeing

Your client’s health and wellbeing should be your biggest priority when applying eyelash extensions. It is a great honor to have the opportunity to enhance someone's natural beauty with eyelash extensions. Nevertheless, this opportunity comes with great responsibility. While reactions can happen, it’s important to apply appropriate preventive and safety measures. This means confirming if the client has any allergies or sensitivities to lash adhesives. In addition, it is important to properly clean and disinfect your tools and work area between clients to prevent cross-contamination.

This may also mean revisiting proper application techniques through training or refresher courses. The Lash Professional has several in-person and online lash extension training programs to correct and perfect your technique to industry standards.

How to Clean Eyelash Extensions: Tips to Tell Clients The Lash Professional

How to Clean Eyelash Extensions

How to: Clean Eyelash Extensions

July 5, 2019 by The Lash Professional.

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times — daily maintenance is a must for lash ladies who expect the most out of their eyelash extensions! A daily lash extension routine can increase the longevity of the lashes and enhance the overall appearance to keep them looking fresh.

Keep reading to learn a few of our favorite tips and tricks on how to clean eyelash extensions that you’ll need to share with your clients before you send them on their way. In addition, we’ve thrown in a few sneaky hygiene tips to extend the life of a new set of lashes!

4 Tips to Cleaning Eyelash ExtensionS

Before your client leaves the shop, make sure they are equipped with these tips on how to clean and maintain their eyelash extensions!

Tip #1: Use Mild Cleanser

It goes without saying, but your client should use a mild cleanser daily to remove excess debris and oils. Bonus points for recommending an oil-free foaming eyelash cleanser to help your clients refresh their lashes at home! Overall, with regular maintenance, clients can maximize the life of their lash extensions.

Tip #2: Brush Daily

Brushing eyelash extensions can work wonders for clients who want to extend the life of their lashes! Daily brushing with a reusable or disposable lash brush can remove any excess debris that gets caught in long lashes throughout the day. In addition, this process can fan out the lashes, fixing any clumped and straggling sections. An easy trick to remembering to brush lash extensions is to brush them at the same time your client would brush their hair or teeth.

Tip #3: Avoid Excess Oils

We’re all for natural skincare solutions! However, we’re going to have to pass on the oil cleansing method and any other makeup removers and cleansers that use oil to clean out the pores. Ultimately, the oils break down the eyelash extension glue used to adhere the extensions to the natural lash. Take the time to warn your clients of hidden oils found in mascara, face washes, and makeup removers.

Tip #4: Scale Back Eye Makeup

One easy tip on how to keep your eyelashes clean between fills is to scale back on eye makeup. This reduces the need to harshly scrub and brush at existing extensions. At the end of the day, the less your client has to needlessly come into contact with their lashes, the less likely they are to accidentally remove lashes. Offer your client helpful alternatives to ease their need for eye makeup, such as a reusable lash wand to fan out the lashes for a fresh-faced look instead of mascara. And, if they absolutely have to use mascara, offer a water-soluble and oil-free lash extension safe mascara.

How to Clean Eyelash Extensions

1. Remove any eye makeup with an oil-free remover. Wipe away from the lid to prevent any damage, and avoid using cotton that may get caught in your lashes.

2. Applying a small amount of gentle foaming cleanser, gently cleanse the lashes in a circular motion using an eyelash extension cleansing brush.

3. Carefully rinse away the cleanser with a water dispenser and pat (not rub!) your lashes dry.

Keeping your eyelash extensions clean is the key to maintaining their longevity, protecting your natural lashes, and keeping your eyes healthy. As a trusted lash brand, we can't stress enough how important it is to use the right techniques and products to ensure your extensions stay flawless.

Classic vs. Volume Eyelash Extensions: Which One Is Right for You?

September 5, 2019 by The Lash Professional.

One of the most common questions I get as a lash artist is, “What’s the difference between classic and volume eyelash extensions?” It’s such a great question because both styles are absolutely stunning, but they’re designed to create totally different looks.

Whether you’re a client trying to figure out which style is best for you or a lash artist perfecting your craft, understanding the classic vs. volume eyelash extensions debate is a must. As a lash artist I’m here to give you the scoop on these two techniques so you can confidently choose (or create!) the perfect lash set.

What Are Classic Eyelash Extensions?

Classic eyelash extensions are the OGs of lash extensions. They’re simple, elegant, and perfect for enhancing natural beauty.

How They Work:

In a classic set, one extension is applied to one natural lash (this is called a 1:1 ratio). The result is a natural, mascara-like effect that adds length and a little volume.

Best For:

-Clients with lots of natural lashes who want a subtle, polished look.

-Everyday wear or people who prefer a minimalist vibe.

Pros of Classic Lashes:

Lightweight and natural-looking.

Easier to apply (great for beginners in the lash industry).

Perfect for clients with strong, healthy natural lashes.

Cons of Classic Lashes:

Limited in terms of adding volume.

Not ideal for clients with sparse or thin natural lashes.

What Are Volume Eyelash Extensions?

Volume eyelash extensions are all about drama and density. This technique uses handmade or premade fans to create a fuller, fluffier look.

How They Work:

Multiple extensions (typically 2-6) are applied to one natural lash. These extensions are super lightweight to avoid damaging the natural lash. Volume fans can vary in density, from light and airy (2D or 5D) to bold and dramatic (6D or more).

Best For:

-Clients who want a more glamorous or dramatic look.

-Filling gaps for clients with sparse or thin natural lashes.

Pros of Volume Lashes:

Creates a customized, bold look.

Fills in gaps for clients with less natural lash density.

Lasts longer due to better adhesive bonding with multiple extensions.

Cons of Volume Lashes:

Takes longer to apply (especially handmade fans).

May feel too dramatic for clients who prefer a natural look.

Classic vs. Volume Eyelash Extensions: Key Differences

Feature Classic Extensions Volume Extensions
Application Ratio 1:1 (one extension per lash) 2:1 to 6:1 (fans per natural lash)
Look Natural, mascara-like Full, fluffy, dramatic
Best For Clients with strong natural lashes Clients wanting more volume or filling gaps
Application Time 1.5-2 hours 2-3 hours
Weight Lightweight Ultra-light fans (still gentle!)

How to Choose Between Classic and Volume Extensions

The choice between classic vs. volume eyelash extensions depends on a few factors:

1. Client’s Desired Look

Natural Look: Classic lashes are the way to go.

Dramatic Look: Volume lashes add that extra oomph.

2. Natural Lash Health

Clients with sparse or thin lashes will benefit more from volume sets to create fullness.

Classic lashes work best for clients with strong, healthy natural lashes.

3. Occasion

Everyday Wear: Classic lashes are subtle and practical.

Special Events: Volume lashes are perfect for weddings, parties, or photoshoots.

Why Not Both? Hybrid Lashes!

Can’t decide? That’s where hybrid lashes come in! Hybrid sets combine classic and volume techniques to create a textured, dimensional look. It’s the best of both worlds and a client favorite for versatility.

FAQs About Classic and Volume Lashes

1. Do Classic Lashes Last Longer Than Volume?

Nope! Retention depends more on application technique and aftercare than the style of lashes.

2. Can Clients Switch Between Classic and Volume Fills?

Yes, but it may require a full removal and new set if the styles are very different.

3. Are Volume Lashes Heavy?

Not at all! Volume fans are made with ultra-light extensions, so they’re just as gentle as classic lashes.

Final Thoughts on Classic vs. Volume Eyelash Extensions

When it comes to classic vs. volume eyelash extensions, there’s no “one size fits all” answer—it’s all about the client’s unique needs and style. Classic lashes are perfect for a natural, everyday look, while volume lashes deliver bold, glamorous vibes. And for those who can’t decide, hybrid sets are always a win.

Eyelash Extensions vs Lash Lifts

Eyelash Extensions vs Lash Lifts

Eyelash Extensions vs. Lash Lifts: Which One Is Right for You?

September 17, 2019 by The Lash Professional.

Let’s talk about one of the most common dilemmas in the beauty world: “Should I get eyelash extensions or a lash lift?” As a lash artist representing The Lash Professional, I hear this question all the time, and the answer depends on your vibe, your lifestyle, and what kind of lash goals you’re working toward.

Both eyelash extensions and lash lifts are amazing options to enhance your natural beauty, but they’re totally different treatments. If you’re not sure which one is right for you (or your clients), don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Let’s break down the pros, cons, and differences of these two lash-enhancing options.

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Let’s start with the OG of lash glam: eyelash extensions. This treatment involves applying individual extensions to your natural lashes using a lash-safe adhesive. The result? A fuller, longer, and totally customizable look.

Pros of Eyelash Extensions:

-Customizable: Choose your length, curl, and style (classic, hybrid, or volume).

-Time-Saving: Say goodbye to mascara and lash curlers.

-Instant Glam: Perfect for anyone who loves a bold, polished look.

Cons of Eyelash Extensions:

-Maintenance: Requires fills every 2-3 weeks to keep them looking fresh.

-Cost: Higher upfront cost compared to lash lifts.

-Aftercare: You’ll need to avoid oil-based products and clean your lashes daily.

Best For:

-Anyone who loves a dramatic look and doesn’t mind the upkeep.

-Clients with events or special occasions coming up (think weddings, vacations, or photoshoots).

What Is a Lash Lift?

Now, let’s talk about lash lifts! A lash lift is like a perm for your natural lashes. It enhances your natural lashes by lifting and curling them, making them look longer and more defined.

Pros of Lash Lifts:

-Low Maintenance: No fills or special aftercare required.

-Natural Look: Ideal for clients who prefer a more subtle enhancement.

-Budget-Friendly: Typically costs less than extensions.

Cons of Lash Lifts:

-Not as Dramatic: Won’t give you the fullness or length that extensions can.

-Depends on Natural Lashes: If your natural lashes are short or sparse, the results may be less noticeable.

-Limited Customization: You can’t choose the curl or add volume like you can with extensions.

Best For:

-Clients who want a natural, “I woke up like this” look.

-Busy people who want enhanced lashes without the upkeep of extensions.

Eyelash Extensions vs. Lash Lifts: Key Differences

Feature Eyelash Extensions Lash Lifts
Results Dramatic length, volume, and curl Natural lift and curl
Maintenance Requires fills every 2-3 weeks Lasts 6-8 weeks with no fills needed
Customizability Highly customizable (length, curl, volume) Limited customization
Application Time 1.5-3 hours 45 minutes to 1 hour
Best For Glam lovers, special occasions Natural look, low-maintenance lifestyle

How to Choose Between Eyelash Extensions and Lash Lifts

Still not sure which one is right for you (or your clients)? Here are some factors to consider:

1. Desired Look

Go for extensions if you love dramatic, full lashes.

Choose a lift if you prefer a subtle, natural look.

2. Time Commitment

Extensions require regular fills and daily aftercare.

Lifts are low-maintenance and perfect for busy lifestyles.

3. Lash Goals

Extensions are ideal for creating volume and length.

Lifts enhance what you already have but don’t add extra fullness.

4. Budget

Extensions are a bigger investment upfront and over time.

Lifts are more affordable and don’t require ongoing costs.

FAQs About Eyelash Extensions vs. Lash Lifts

1. Do Lash Lifts Damage Your Natural Lashes?

Nope! When done correctly with high-quality products, lash lifts are completely safe.

2. How Long Do Lash Lifts Last Compared to Extensions?

Lash lifts typically last 6-8 weeks, while extensions require fills every 2-3 weeks for a full look.

3. Can I Wear Mascara With Either Service?

With extensions: Avoid mascara to prevent damage.

With lifts: You can use mascara, but it’s usually not needed.

Final Thoughts on Eyelash Extensions vs. Lash Lifts

At the end of the day, both eyelash extensions and lash lifts have their own unique perks. Extensions are all about drama and customization, while lifts offer a natural, low-maintenance enhancement. The best choice depends on your (or your client’s) personal style, lifestyle, and lash goals.

Will Eyelash Extensions Ruin Your Natural Lashes? The Lash Professional

Will Eyelash Extensions Ruin Your Natural Lashes?

Will Eyelash Extensions Ruin Your Natural Lashes?

September 16, 2020 by The Lash Professional.

Sometimes, your natural lashes need a little va-va-voom. Lash extensions add length and volume in a way that even the best mascara can’t achieve. But do eyelash extensions ruin your natural lashes? Whether you're a lash tech who gets asked this by clients or you are curious about getting a new set of lashes for yourself, we’ve got answers for you.

Do eyelash extensions make your eyelashes fall out?

Losing precious lashes sounds like a beauty disaster! Take a deep breath. The truth is natural lashes fall out regularly. The natural life cycle for eyelashes includes three phases—growth, transition and resting. At the end of the resting phase, the lash falls out and is replaced by a new lash.

When you get lash extensions, the cycle continues as normal. Because each lash extension is connected to a natural lash, your extensions fall out in the same cycle as your natural lashes. If a client asks, “Will my eyelashes grow back after eyelash extensions?” you can assure them that the lashes continue to grow even when extensions are on. It is all part of the lash growth cycle.

So, do eyelash extensions make your eyelashes fall out? No, natural lashes shed every day, and the loss of 3-5 natural lashes a day is normal. Keep in mind that natural lashes will shed with their extension as they are attached!

If an inexperienced lash technician applies lashes to more than one natural lash, you may see clumps of lashes shedding, which is so unnecessary. To avoid this, make sure you are visiting a lash professional!

Do eyelash extensions ruin your natural lashes?

NO. Lash extensions absolutely will not ruin your natural lashes. Actually, natural lashes only become temporary damaged from extensions if they are applied incorrectly! There are also a couple of practices to keep in mind so that your natural lashes stay nice and healthy:

Don’t rub or tug at your lash extensions. This can cause stress or damage to the natural lashes below. Plus, the natural oils on your skin will break down the adhesive, meaning your lashes won’t last as long.

Research before selecting a lash studio. Before you trust someone to go near your eyes with tweezers and strong lash adhesive, make sure they know what they’re doing. With a skilled lash technician placing each extension, you won’t have to worry about temporary ruining your natural lashes. Need ideas for lash locations? Read about top lash studios in cities across the US on our blog.

If you are a lash technician, be sure to ask each client about any allergies or sensitivities. If they are unsure, watch for signs of irritation during the application, since this may indicate that it’s best to switch to another type of adhesive.

If you are a client, be vocal about your concerns from the start. Let your lash tech know about sensitivities you have to certain lash glue. If you begin to feel pain or discomfort during the lash application process, let your technician know right away. Having irritated eyes leads to lots of rubbing and tugging that could damage natural lashes.

Do lash extensions make your natural lashes shorter?

By a show of hands, who wants long lashes? Everyone? We’re not surprised! Long lashes are always in style, and the fear of losing length due to extensions is understandable. So let’s address the common question, “do eyelash extensions make your natural lashes shorter?”

Your natural lash length won’t experience harm if two aspects of your lash routine are in place. One: you’re being gentle and kind to your lash extensions. Two: a well-trained lash technician applies your lashes.

Proper lash extension care is important because it ensures your lashes are well-taken care of. By washing lashes daily and staying away from damaging heat and oils, you protect your lashes from premature shedding. Since you won’t need mascara, you won’t need to tug at your lash line with makeup remover. This is a benefit to your natural lashes as it shields them from excessive rubbing.

Secondly, an improper lash extension application can lead to natural lashes being weighed down. This can give way to weak and brittle lashes. Protect your natural lashes and get the best lash extension results possible by visiting a highly rated lash studio.
