Are lash extensions safe?
Not only will eyelash extensions make you feel glamorous, but they are also completely safe. When correctly applied by a trained professional who practices the correct techniques and uses high grade lash supplies you will be A Okay. If eyelash extensions are applied incorrectly or with the improper adhesive, they can cause discomfort and infection, so make sure you choose your technician carefully.
How long do lash extensions last?
The life span of eyelash extensions is typically around three to four weeks. They can last forever while looking amazing with bi-weekly maintenance and by following aftercare tips.
Can I wear mascara with lash extensions?
Yes! But we recommended sticking to a water-based mascara like The Lash Professional’s Lash Extensions Safe Mascara. It was specially formulated for the lash extension obsessed. This mascara will add extra volume and length to your extensions without any flaking, clumping, or smudging.
When using The Lash Professional’s Lash Extensions Safe Mascara gently apply the mascara to the tips of the extensions.
How do I prepare for a lash extension appointment?
There are a bunch of things you can do to be prepared for your lash appointment. The most important is to arrive with clean lashes. You want your lashes to be makeup and oil free. The cleaner your lashes are the less time the lash technician will spend cleaning them and the more time they will spend actually applying lash extensions. We also recommend not having caffeine right before your appointment. Caffeine can make your eyes flutter, making it difficult for the technician to correctly apply the extensions. Also, getting our eyelash extensions done should be a peaceful, relaxing experience! Okay, the last thing we recommend is wear comfy clothes. You’ll be spending at least an hour lying down, so comfortable clothing will help you relax and enjoy the time.
What should I expect during a lash extension appointment?
A lash extension service always starts with a consultation. Your lash technician will briefly discuss your eye health history and preference of style. Together you will choose a style that works best for your unique features and your preferences. Now, you get to lie back and sink into your lash bed as your lash extension technician gets to work with will cleansing your eye area. After your eyes are cleansed, the technician applies cooling eye pads. It is time for your 2-to-3-hour nap!
Can I still swim and exercise with lash extensions?
You can absolutely go swimming with lash extensions. Swimming will 100% not cause any damage to your lashes, however, there are some related issues that could potentially occur.
As we know, chlorine can be a little harsh and can make your eyes itchy, so make sure you’re not rubbing or itching your eyes after you take a little swim. Your best bet is to rinse your lashes out as soon as you get out of the pool. This goes for saltwater too. It’s better to be safe than sorry, rinse your lashes out after a swim in the pool, lake, and ocean.
How do I properly clean and care for my lash extensions?
Everyone wants to know how to care for eyelash extensions without all the extras. The most important thing is to keep your lashes clean. Using a specially made lash cleanser and brush is the way to go. Add a lash cleansing routine to your skin care routine is easy! Make sure you keep away cotton though. Cotton can snag on the extensions and rip them out!
What if I have an allergic reaction to lash extensions?
Don’t panic! The first thing you should do is take an antihistamine to eliminate or reduce the symptoms of the lash extension allergy. This would help tremendously especially if you had a little cold compress to the swelling. If you want to keep your lashes, you can! The reaction will go done in a few days. If you prefer to get them removed, we suggest waiting for the reaction to go down so it doesn’t get worse by adding another chemical to the mix. If you do decide to keep your lashes, to avoid the lash extension allergy switch to a sensitive lash adhesive.
What's the difference between classic, volume, and hybrid lash extensions?
There are so many different types of lash extensions now! Let’s break them down for you. Let’s start with classic. Classic eyelashes are simple, beautiful, and natural looking. This classic look is achieved by applying one extension to one natural lash. Now volume lash extensions give you a completely different look: drama, glamour, luxurious. Lash technicians create volume lashes by attaching fans of extensions to one natural lash. These fans can hold anywhere from 2 extensions to 20 depending on the look. But that’s not all the looks. There is hybrid which is a mix of these volume fans and classic lashes. This hybrid look gives, well, a mix of the natural and dramatic for those who like the in between.
How much do lash extensions cost?
Eyelash extensions cost an average of $125 to $350, according to industry experts. There are several things that factor into the cost like the technician’s experience, location, product quality, and the style you go with.
How to Care For Eyelash Extensions
How to Care For Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are a wonderful investment. But if you don’t care for them appropriately, your lash extensions may not stand the test of time. Before you hit the streets to show off your look, take note of these eyelash extension aftercare instructions. After all, your lashes will only look as good as you allow them.
Effortlessly gorgeous lashes? Check. Keep them that way by learning how to care for eyelash extensions.
Eyelash Extension Care Dos and Don’ts
Want lashes that last? Of course, you do! That’s why learning how to take care of eyelash extensions is so important.
The eyelash extension care commandments below might take some getting used to. But once you settle into your lash loving routine, it will be a breeze. Let’s jump into the dos and don’ts of taking care of lash extensions!
This one is pretty obvious, but you would be surprised to find out how many people fail to do this!
An important step in taking care of eyelash extensions is making sure that they are clean. Here’s how:
- Remove your makeup and gently cleanse your extensions with an oil-free liquid makeup remover or face wash.
- Take extra care to wipe the extensions with a wet cotton pad as a dry pad could catch onto your lashes.
- Consider using a lash wand. This handy tool helps brush away excess dirt or oils (more on this later).
Keep in mind that your eyelash extension boutique may carry a cleanser in-house or have a recommended lash cleanser that you can purchase. If you do nothing else, lash babes, remember this one tip – clean your lashes!
Did you know that excess oils can reduce the lifespan of your lashes? Yup, oils break down the lash glue that holds your lengthy lashes in place. So, if you want those lash extensions to last, don’t make it hard for them to hold on!
Common products like skincare serums, eye creams and lotions contain oils that can dissolve the eyelash glue. Opt for water or gel-based products, and check ingredient labels before slathering on new products.
Get this— lots of mascaras also contain oils. Take a deep breath; you don’t have to put down the mascara wand forever! There are mascara products made exclusively for eyelash extensions that won’t affect your extensions. Take care to apply this specially-made mascara only to the tips of your lashes and rock your glam girl look.
Taking care of eyelash extensions means paying attention to the needs of your lashes. The more time that passes, the harder it is to keep your lashes voluminous. One of the best methods to keep your eyelash extensions fresh and full is to schedule regular refills with your lash tech. This may seem like a money drain, but regular lash maintenance can actually save you money.
If you wait too long to refill your lash extensions, your lash tech might require you to purchase a full set to restore them to their former glory. Book a meeting with your lash tech and see what their recommendations are when it comes to scheduling refills. And don’t be afraid to ask this lashing guru about eyelash extension care tips.
Similar to excess oils, too much moisture may break down the eyelash glue. No, your lashes won’t fall out excessively in the shower or droop from a light rain, but water can affect the overall look of the lashes. The best practice is to avoid any excess moisture. Now isn’t the time for sauna trips or facial steam treatments!
If sunbathing, sweating and splashing around are part of your regular routine, we’ve got you covered. Learn how to care for eyelash extensions in the summer months here.
When we give our clients advice on how to take care of eyelash extensions, brushing is always on the list. Long lashes are beautiful, but they can also trap debris and dirt. The solution is simple— make brushing your lash extensions part of your daily routine. For more tips on maintaining pristine lashes, check out what lash professionals had to say about cleaning eyelash extensions.
If you’re anything like us, you have a few beauty tools you just can’t live without. If a lash curler is on that list, this eyelash extension care tip might be hard to handle. The truth is that you don’t need an eyelash curler when you have lash extensions.
In fact, a traditional lash curler can do more harm than good to your extensions. You might end up with an unsightly bend in the lashes that won’t go away. The good news is that your lash technician will choose extensions with a curlthat meets your desired look. So put down the curler while the extensions are in.
Eyelash extensions are a worthwhile investment for ladies who want to speed up their morning routine and achieve an effortlessly flawless look. Yes, you should learn how to care for eyelash extensions, but you should also enjoy those beauties while they last!
It’s a rough world out there if you have eyelash extensions, but with these tips, taking care of eyelash extensions is straightforward and simple. Now that you’ve learned how to take care of eyelash extensions, you can rock them with confidence!
Lash Extensions vs. Individual Lashes: 11 Things to Know
Lash Extensions vs. Individual Lashes: 11 Things to Know
December 28, 2021 by The Lash Professional.
When you look at someone for the first time, your eyes go naturally to theirs and vice versa! So why not wow them with your stunning lash extensions or individual lashes? The struggle can be real when choosing between lash extensions vs. individual lashes, but rest assured that you're not alone. We’re here to help you choose between the two and create a breathtaking lash look!
Lash Extensions vs. Individual Lashes
The more you know about the difference between lash extensions and individual lashes, the easier the choice becomes. With that in mind, here are 11 things to know about lash extensions vs. individual lashes to help you figure it all out!
1. What are Lash Extensions?
Let’s start with answering, “What are lash extensions?”. Lash extensions are exactly what they sound like: Extensions to existing natural eyelashes. Once applied, they grow along with your natural lashes' life cycle.
Lash extensions can take some time to apply and should 100% be done by trained lash artists to ensure they are properly done. This may mean lash extensions are a bit more expensive than individual lashes, but their longer life cycle makes them a worthwhile investment.
2. What are Individual Lashes?
What are individual lashes, you ask? Contrary to their name, individual lashes are not really "individual" lashes in the way eyelash extensions are. They are actually groups of lashes applied to your eyes to enhance your look.
Individual lashes are temporary and cheaper than lash extensions. You can apply these lashes yourself pretty quickly and easily remove them later.
3. Which are Better: Lash Extensions vs. Individual Lashes?
The choice to get lash extensions vs. individual lashes is a very personal one. If you want to try to think about it objectively, though, the fact is that lash extensions will last much longer than individual lashes. So if you’re looking for vibrant lashes that last much longer, lash extensions are obviously the best way to go!
However, some people might only want eyelash enhancements for a single event (Hello, New Year's party!). In that case, when choosing between eyelash extensions vs. individuals, you’ll likely want to go with individual lashes rather than extensions.
4. Are Lash Extensions Safe?
As long as lash extensions are applied by a trained professional, then lash extensions are extremely safe. The use of medical-grade tape and hypoallergenic gel pads for eyelash extensions can reduce the chance of irritation or allergic reaction. Still, lash extensions are applied to your natural eyelashes by lash artists, making them mostly unobtrusive.
5. Are Individual Lashes Safe?
Yes, individual lashes are safe if used every so often. However, be mindful of using these repeatedly over time. There can be some side effects due to the weight of individual lashes, which are usually stacked on each other, and the glue binding them to your eyelids. Excessive reliance on individual lashes can result in eyelash balding (the loss of eyelashes). The last thing any lash babe wants to do is ruin their beautiful natural lashes!
6. Where Can I Get Lash Extensions?
To get lash extensions done, you should make an appointment with a trained lash artist. Most salons will likely have services for lash extensions, but there are also beauty bars that focus exclusively on lash services. It can take some time to get lash extensions applied by a lash artist (figure between 60 to 90 minutes), but the end result will satisfy your clients for months on end.
7. How Much Do Lash Extensions Cost?
Depending on what lashes you want and how many you want them done, the cost of lash extensions can really vary. You can get initial lash extensions done for anywhere from $150 to $500, but again, there's a lot that goes into that pricing. You also have to remember that you're paying for the expertise of a lash artist, and benefiting from their training comes at a price!
8. Where Can I Get Individual Lashes?
You can buy individual lashes at beauty supply shops like Sephora or Ulta Beauty, and even at Amazon. Walgreens, CVS, or Target. They usually come in packs, with several dozen lashes (50 to 60, sometimes more) in each package.
You don't need an appointment to apply individual lashes but can do them at home (with clean hands!).
9. How Much Do Individual Lashes Cost?
In the battle between eyelash extensions vs individual lashes, based solely on affordability, then individual lashes come out on top. They are usually extremely cheap, around $6 to $8 per package on average. Sometimes, sale prices can result in older styles of lashes actually being even more affordable, in the range of $2.
10. How Can I Become a Lash Artist?
If a career as a lash artist is something you want to pursue, or if you are a beauty professional who wants to build up your skill set, you’re in luck! The Lash Professional has a number of online courses available for those who want to learn how to apply lash extensions right from the comfort of their home. Just make sure you come prepared with your mannequin to practice all our favorite techniques!
You can get the training you need to be a superb lash artist for your clients with the help of The Lash Professional.
11. Finally, Where Do Lash Artists Get Their Gear?
As a lash professional, you should have a wide variety of lashes for your clients to choose from. You’ll also need to stock up on the right tools for a comfortable and effective application. Visit The Lash Professional for all of your lash extension needs, from education to supplies and more!
Difference Between Individual Lashes and Extensions
Are you contemplating the secret to captivating, fluttery lashes but unsure about whether to choose individual lashes or extensions? The beauty world offers two fantastic options, eyelash extensions and individual lashes. Understanding the disparity between these two can help you make an informed decision about what suits your needs and lifestyle best.
Individual eyelash extensions, a popular choice among beauty aficionados, involve attaching single synthetic lashes to your natural ones. The process is meticulous, ensuring a seamless blend for a natural yet enhanced look. These extensions typically last from three to six weeks, depending on your lash growth cycle and maintenance routine. Careful consideration and application make them a viable semi-permanent solution to achieve luxurious lashes.
“Because long eyelashes are aesthetically pleasing and seen as a desirable trait that adds to physical attractiveness, some people seek to enhance their eyelash length artificially, by means of eyelashextensions, false lashes attached to the eyelid, cosmetics, or growth products.”
Individual lashes, also referred to as cluster or flare lashes, are individual extensions designed for application on natural eyelashes. They come in various lengths and thicknesses, providing a customizable option for those seeking a temporary glam boost. Individual lashes vs extensions offer versatility, as they can be applied at home or by a professional. While they don't last as long as extensions, typically up to two weeks, they're perfect for special occasions or a short-term enhancement.
What's the difference between individual lashes and extensions?
The key difference between individual lashes and extensions lies in their longevity and application process. If you desire a longer-lasting option that requires professional application and maintenance, individual eyelash extensions might be your best bet. Conversely, if you prefer a more customizable, short-term solution that you can apply yourself, individual lashes might be the ideal choice.

Lash Lifts vs Lash Extensions
Lash Lifts vs Lash Extensions
July 9, 2018 by The Lash Professional. Posted in Get Money.
Ahhh, the most recent debate in the industry: Lash lifts or lash extensions? I know we’ve all been curious, so I am going to break it down and tell you how I see things. Lash lifts are coming up quick on the tail of lash extensions…but are they really the “better alternative” ? Decide for yourself! But first, here is a quick explanation of what both are! Straight from the PureWow blog by Brianna Lapolla," A lash lift is really like a push-up bra for your lashes!"... That being said, lash extensions are like an augmentation for them!
A chemical treatment that adds a semi-permanent curl to your lashes.
Synthetic extensions that are applied to each individual natural lash.
Lash Lift Prices vs Lash Extension Prices
The price you pay for fabulous lashes is never going to be cheap… As they say, good lashes aren’t cheap and cheap lashes aren’t good! There are three price factors to a service: the price for the client, the price for the artist, and the price for the lashes!
Lash Lifts:
Client Price-
The other huge pro is price, though it can also be a con but I’ll get to the pricing con a little later. Lash lift’s usually cost around $80-180 (depending on the area), but with a retention time of 6-8 weeks you are paying that amount a lot less often then lash extensions! Though the lashes have a retention time of 6-8 weeks at $80 - 180 per appointment, if you get your lashes done 8 times per year and pay an average of $120 per service, you will spend about $960 just on lash lifts.
Due to minimal saturation of lash lift artists in the industry, you are able to charge a higher price for this service. Products are very pricey, but they definitely pay themselves off.
Ok, what do I mean by the lash price? I mean the price the lash has to pay to stay fabulous! Yes, aftercare. To maintain curly natural lashes, lashes must remain dry for an extended period of time. Essentially it’s a perm…for your lashes! And in the famous words of Elle Woods, “ The first cardinal rule of per maintenance is that you are forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours after getting a perm at the risk of deactivating the immonium thygocolate.”
Lash Extensions:
Client Price-
Though your initial appointment is anywhere from $100-200 (depending on the area) fills are a significant amount averaging about $50 per fill. Lash extensions, initially may seems very expensive as the first appointment price ranges from 100-$200. Yikes. Though lash extensions have a retention time of 2-4 weeks averaging $50 for fill appointments, if you get your lashes done 12 times per year (factoring in an initial appointment at $150) you will spend about $700 just on lash extensions!
Because lash extensions are a bit more saturated in the industry, the price per service isn’t very high. However, due to 2-4 week retention time, clients come consistently and often! Due to loyal clientele and affordable products, lash extensions don’t require a huge investment! (Check out The Lash Professional's product prices here!)
The price for lash extensions is high. Lash extensions require maintenance! Avoiding products with oil, touching the lashes, and sleeping on your face will keep your lashes fabulous! It seems like a lot, but once it becomes routine it’s easy peasy!
Lash Lift Risk vs Lash Extension Risk
Every good thing comes with risks. It is important to always (always always always) research a service or trend before you go for it. So, let’s talk about the dreaded risks of lash lifts and lash extensions because… you have to risk it for the biscuit (the biscuit being some killer lashes).
- Due to the intense chemicals used during the lash lift service, there are serious complications, side effects, or even intense injuries that may occur. The loss of lashes is not uncommon. On a more serious scale, blindness has even been known to occur if done incorrectly.
- If the lashes are an undesirable shape or curl, the client must wait 6-8 weeks for the lashes to relax. Though there are relaxers that can be applied to the lashes, it is not advised as the lashes may become over-processed and fall out.
- Set aside all of the scary complication and high prices in the long run, lash lifts are for your natural lashes and come out looking just that - natural! If you prefer that look they may be perfect for you, but if you prefer a full lash line and a fluffy set of lashes, you will never be happy with a lash lift.
- If lash extensions are done incorrectly, can damage the natural lash causing lash loss.
- Lash extensions may cause an allergic reaction, though there are alternative adhesives that can be used for clients with sensitive eyes.
- If not taken care of, lash extensions can cause an infection (however washing them and brushing them can easily avoid this!)
- There is a high possibility that you might look BOMB AS HECK! (just kidding, that is only a risk if you don’t know how to handle your good looks responsibly LOL)
Lash Lift Benefits vs Lash Extension Benefits
With every risk comes reward; hence, the biscuit (oh what I would give for a biscuit, but I'm referring to lashing ...again!). Weighing the reward will ultimately point you in the right direction. Lash lifts aren't for everyone! But then again, neither are lash extensions.
- Your clients come much less often, allowing you to fill your schedule with a lot more NEW clientele!
- Due to the minimal saturation of lash lift artists in the industry, you are able to charge a higher price for this service, as demand is high.
- Lash lifts require a very minimal amount of work once you've been trained. Just grab our top-rated lash lift supplies and get started. After applying the product, you merely sit…and wait! Voila… curled lashes.
- Clients come fairly often and consistently, creating a very consistent income for artists.
- Because clients come often, artists and clients are able to create a closer connection and client/artist relationship. These relationships, or friendships if you will, result in clients being loyal as hell!
- If properly trained, the risk of error or injury to the client in incredibly low. There is a minimal amount of adhesive applied to each lash, allowing the client to leave feeling comfortable (and beautiful!)
- With the wide variety of curl/length/diameter/style, an artist can literally transform a client’s lashes… which can transform a client’s life!
The Winner of Lash Lifts vs Lash Extensions
Ok, so don’t get me wrong… the lash lifts vs lash extensions battle may still not convince you that lash extensions are the bomb.com, but I wanted to be sure to thoroughly lay out all the facts! I know it is a lot of information, so for a simple version of the comparison check out the comparison chart above! As exciting as lash lifts may be, lash extensions are the industry game-changer. For women who often wear multiple layers of mascara or even strip lashes, lash extensions are the alternative that allow you to wake up looking fabulous, with moderate price, minimal risk, and a high reward! There aren’t many things that pay off like that.

Eyelash Extension Tips for Summer - The Lash Professional
Eyelash Extension Tips for Summer
November 6, 2017 by The Lash Professional.
Summer and lash extensions are two of our favorite things. With the opportunity to fully relax in the warm, bright sun, we think it’s safe to say that summer is finally in full swing!
We can’t get enough lash extensions and summer! To us, summertime means long sunny days, typically spent outside being active or lounging in or next to the pool, lake, or river. It means warm nights gathered around the grill, barbecue, or bonfire, and weekend camp-outs with friends. What’s not to love about summer?
The expert team at The Lash Professional believes that the invention and growing popularity of lash extensions is one of the best trends to grace the beauty industry that’s here to stay. One of the reasons that we, and our clients, love lashes so much is that it’s an overall low maintenance option to “get up and go” with little or no additional make-up needed. We have never been as happy to ditch that annoying, runny mascara as we are when the sun comes out and everything starts heating up!
It’s important to keep in mind that your lashes may require a new level of maintenance to handle the summer heat. You may have questions like, “How will the heat affect my lashes? or “Can you go swimming with lash extensions?” Let’s discuss a few extension tips that will answer these questions and help you maintain your luscious lash extensions all summer long.
5 Extension Tips For Fabulous Summer Lashes
While we love the summer, it can be difficult to know how to best maintain your lash extensions. We’ve compiled a list of the best extension tips to keep your lashes protected and looking glamorous for longer.
One of our favorite ways to cool off from the summer heat is to head to the pool! You may be wondering, “Can you swim with lash extensions?” The simple answer is yes! However, both chlorine and saltwater can affect lash retention time. So, whether you are swimming in a pool, lake, or the ocean, we recommend rinsing with fresh water post-swim and then combing through your lashes with a reusable lash wand or patting (not rubbing!) them dry to remove excess water. Keeping them clean and dry will extend the life of your luxurious lashes!
While we love to bask in the summer sun, the extreme heat it brings can be damaging to your lash extensions. Exposing your lashes to this extreme heat can “relax” the curl, or even worse, singe the lashes! When grilling or snuggling up next to that toasty campfire, make sure not to stand too close or directly over the heat to keep your lashes intact and looking beautiful!
It’s pretty impossible to run around in the sun and not sweat. Unfortunately, sweat carries natural oils from your skin that can run into your eyes and affect lash retention. Here at The Lash Professional, we strongly believe in the benefits of exercise and “sweating it out.” However, to combat the effects of that sweat on your lashes, we recommend using a towel or sweatband when hitting the gym. In extreme sweating situations (such as hot yoga), rinse lashes post-workout with fresh water.
Being outside more — camping, hiking, swimming, etc. — can lead to increased dirt and debris collecting in your lashes. We recommend keeping your extensions clean by rinsing them gently in the shower, allowing the water to pass through. For a deeper clean, consider using our foaming lash cleanser and super gentle eyelash extension brush regularly. This extension tip will have your lashes looking fresh and new for a longer time.
Our last but certainly not least extension tip is all about protecting your skin! We firmly believe in the use of sunscreen. It is an absolute must for all of your favorite summer activities. However, it is important to keep in mind that many sunscreen brands contain oils that can lead to excessive lash shedding. We recommend taking extra care when applying your SPF by avoiding the eye area and allowing it to fully soak in before swimming or sweating.
Thanks to lash extensions, it’s never been easier to stay active and enjoy an array of summer activities, all the while feeling gorgeous and photoshoot-ready at any moment! The Lash Professional wants you and your clients to enjoy the benefits of a stunning lash look this summer. Contact us today to learn more about how you can create and maintain the perfect lash look for long days in the sun!
From everyone here at The Lash Professional, we hope you have a fun and safe summer!
7 Aftercare Tips for Lash Extensions to Share with Your Clients
7 Aftercare Tips for Lash Extensions to Share with Your Clients
March 12, 2018 by The Lash Professional.
We see a lot of articles directed toward lash extension clients, but where do lash artists turn for information? Proper eyelash extension aftercare is imperative to your client’s retention as well as your professional reputation! So here is the lash artist’s guide to lash aftercare! These proper eyelash extension aftercare rules are fairly universal and tend to remain the same regardless of your adhesive or application style! You’ll want to ensure you are educating every single one of your clients on these practices.
Eyelash Extension Aftercare Rules To Follow
These seven lash aftercare instructions are vital to disclose to your lash clients. You want their lashes to look bomb and beautiful for as long as possible, right? These eyelash extension care instructions will help clients to maintain the gorgeous lash job you did!
It may even be worth it to hand out a physical paper copy of these eyelash extension care aftercare instructions so clients can refer back to them between appointments. Print the instructions on a cute colored paper and send clients home with them to educate them on proper lash aftercare.
Here are seven rules to follow after getting eyelash extensions.
Washing daily is, by far, the most important eyelash extension aftercare instruction. Yet, washing daily seems to be the step that clients forget the most! You cannot stress this to your lash lovers enough. Wash, wash, and wash! It seems that when we tell clients to avoid moisture and all of these other things, they think they can’t touch their lash extensions AT ALL… and that’s wrong!
Encouraging your clients to wash their lashes dailyensures they remain clean and clear of debris or products containing oil. They could also get lash mites! Yuck. Show them what lash mites look like and I guarantee your clients will start a daily regimen with The Lash Professional’s Foaming Lash Cleanser!
If you don’t use a nano mister, you should let each client know that they will need to wait 24 hours before introducing any form of moisture to their eyelash extensions! This is a long time for some clients to avoid a hot shower, cooking over the stove, or working out! Make sure they are aware of this prior to their service so they can plan accordingly.
Introducing water molecules to their eyelash extensions too soon could cause their lashes to fall out almost immediately. Investing in The Lash Professional Nano Mister is a great way to reduce that time frame for clients. A nano mister will knock a solid 20 hours off of that 24 hour waiting period! Clients will only need to wait four hours to introduce moisture. The science behind how nano misters work is pretty awesome, especially if you are a lash nerd like me.
This eyelash extension aftercare tip is essential. Avoiding oil based products means ALL oil based products. Many clients take this as, “Okay, no more oil based mascara… easy!”
Wrong.
This lash aftercare rule is not easy because it doesn’t stop there. The seeping power of any facial product is astonishing. That means facial cleansers, moisturizers, and foundation! These products get sucked so far into our skin that they can spread all the way to our lash follicles… even if we avoid the eye area! You’ll even want to let your clients know that oil based body lotion can cause retention issues without them realizing!
Touching eyelash extensions or rubbing your eyes can be a totally sub-conscious tendency. Some clients even rub their eyes in their sleep. Let each client know that doing so will cause their lash extensions to prematurely fall out. The oils or lotions from their hands will break down the adhesive causing them to come in for lash fills much more often –– which, in this case, is NOT a good thing!
This is a tricky eyelash extension aftercare rule. I can honestly admit, I am a face sleeper; I’ll never not be a face sleeper. Face sleepers are easily identifiable, though. If you have a client with lashes that are going every-which direction, and no I don’t mean curly lashes –– that is a completely different situation –– there is a good chance they are a face sleeper! Especially if only one eye has crazy lashes (their dominant face-sleep side).
This is a good thing to note in their client profile. Quite often, these clients will come back and say they have no idea how, but they lost so many lashes on the outer corners or only on one eye! Well, if you’ve noted it in their profile, you will have the answer for them! “YOU ARE A FACE SLEEPER!”
If your clients can avoid sleeping directly on their lashes, great! If your clients cannot avoid doing so, it is best to make them well aware that it will cause retention issues. This way, they will walk away with realistic retention and eyelash extension aftercare expectations. Suggest they use a satin/silk pillowcase to make the night less treacherous on their extensions!
I have literally had clients come to me with seared eyelashes. It’s almost comical. They’ve either gotten way too close to the soufflé in the oven or their cigarette or candle! These seem like very obvious issues. But, for those clients who have never had to be careful around heat, this may be a good talking point BEFORE it happens. Clients who are new to lash extensions have never had to worry about their natural lashes shriveling up near heat. Just make sure you address this lash aftercare rule before they come in thinking their lashes are randomly melting.
Unless we dissect each and every chemical and product and ingredient, there is no way for us to know whether or not chemical peels and procedures will cause retention issues for our clients. The best course of action, if a client asks, is to completely avoid the eye area. This will ensure nothing seeps into that lash line, as I mentioned earlier!
Knowing everything there is to know about eyelash extension aftercare and retention will come with experience. But, you might as well educate yourself as much as possible in the meantime! Your clients will be impressed and remain loyal to their “all lash-knowing” artist! And placing our Eyelash Extension Aftercare Kit and Sleek Retail Display to encourage more sales and happy lashes is always a good idea.
It wouldn’t hurt to have something to give clients to make sure they are keeping up with their lovely lashes! Check out our “Freebies” for a downloadable lash aftercare template highlighting these rules!
How to Make Your Lash Extensions Last - The Lash Professional
How to Make Your Lash Extensions Last
February 18, 2021 by The Lash Professional.
We want our clients to be happy with the lash extensions we’re applying, right? The worst is having a client call and complain that their new lashes are falling off prematurely. What do you say? Uh, sorry.
Come back tomorrow, and I’ll touch them up for free. Your client will probably be okay with that, hopefully, but now you’re spending more time on a set of lashes than you should. And, as we all know, time is money! We don’t want to throw away our time or money. So, let’s figure out how to make your lash extensions last the first time.
Are you perfectly isolating each natural lash? When it comes to making your lash extensions last, isolation is a major contributing factor. Each lash must be isolated; you know one natural lash between your isolation tweezer. This goes for applying both classic and volume lashes. If your isolation needs some work, don’t worry, just practice on strip lashes, friends, and family to get this technique down. It’s so important! Also, taping can help isolate those more difficult natural lashes, thus helping to make your lash extensions last longer. Click the link below to get more information on taping up extensions and getting to those hard to reach natural lashes.
5 Tips to Get Faster at Quality Lash Extensions!
Are you applying extensions that are too heavy for the natural lash? When you apply a heavy extension to a weak natural lash, it can cause the natural lash to break or the extension to droop. Keep in mind that the diameter of a lash extension is not the weight of the lash extension. A 12mm, .20 diameter lash extension weighs .00030 grams. A 12mm, .15 diameter lash extension weighs .00015 grams. When choosing the diameter of extension to use for your set, keep the weight of the extension in mind. Also, the length of the extensions should not exceed double the length of the natural lash. The longer the extension, you guessed it, the more weight. Picking the right lash extensions will give your clients long lasting lashes they can brag about!
Are you using too much lash adhesive? Using too much adhesive will cause eyelash extensions to fall out quicker than they should. Less is more! If you’re using too much lash glue, it will add more weight which will dramatically reduce retention. Using too much lash glue will also cause the lashes to stick to each other causing an unnatural, painful, and short-lasting set. No thanks! To avoid using too much lash adhesive, dip only the very end of the extension into the adhesive and dab off any excess glue before applying the extension to the natural lash. That’s it; you’ll be ready to go!
Are you not using enough lash adhesive? Too much lash adhesive is not the way to go, but neither is not enough adhesive. Make sure that you have enough lash glue to properly coat the extension and natural lash. Remember, not too much, but not too little. It’s a balance thing.
Are you rushing when you’re applying your set of eyelash extensions? Okay, listen, I get it, we are busy. Heck, our clients are busy. They don’t want to lay on your lash table for hours; they’ve got stuff to do! However, I bet your clients wouldn’t mind their lash appointment taking a little longer if it means their lashes look better and last longer. I mean, what is the point in laying there if their lashes will just fall out the next day? So, slow it down a little. Take the extra 20 minutes today, so you won’t have to re-do the whole thing tomorrow. Make sure you are paying attention to the details because the details will make the difference.
Are you checking your lash set before curing with a Nano-Misteror fan? The Lash Professional recommends checking your set to make sure there are not any extensions stuck together, all the lashes adhere at the base, and there isn’t excess adhesive or drooping extensions. If you find anything that isn’t right, fix it! It’s better to fix any mistakes at the end of the service than have the client call tomorrow complaining. Do it right the first time.
You also want to brush the lashes before sending your client on their way. Actually, I brush them four to five times throughout the service. And I don’t mean lightly fluffing them; I mean BRUSH THOSE BABIES! Better to have any weak links (extensions) fall off while they are there than when they get home! Speaking of home — send your client home with eyelash extension aftercare instructions so they can maintain their new beauties.
These 5 tips will make your lash extensions last! If you feel like you need additional information on how to properly apply extensions, we have great classic and volume lash classes that will break everything down in detail! Check them out.
What are Mega Volume Lashes?
What are Mega Volume Lashes?
December 21, 2021 by The Lash Professional.
Have you ever heard of mega volume lashes? These lashes are often used to create ultra-dramatic lash looks for those in love with super long lashes. However, you may have a few questions about this lash style, such as:
- What is mega volume?
- Is mega volume just volume with a fancy new name?
- Are mega volume lashes safe?
- Are mega volume lashes damaging to natural lashes?
There are so many questions around mega volume that haven’t been answered, but rest assured, I’m here to break them down for you. We know how important it is to know everything you can about what’s going on in your industry! So here it is, lash artist — mega volume lashes.
Mega Volume Lashes vs. Volume Lashes
Mega volume lashes are very similar to the traditional volume lashes we know. However, they have a minor difference that sets them apart when it comes to lash styles.
The difference between mega volume and traditional volume is how many lash extensions are being used to create the fan and the diameter of the extensions in the fan. A set of traditional volume lashes uses .07 extensions to create a fan with up to 5 lash extensions. Mega volume sets use .05 and .03 lash extensions to create a fan with up to 16 lash extensions. With mega volume, you can apply up to 16 extensions on one natural lash. That is MEGA for sure.
Are Mega Volume Lashes Safe?
This is a totally valid question! Luckily, the answer is yes. Just like every other style of lash extensions, mega volume lashes are safe for your natural lashes — as long as they’re applied correctly. And let’s not forget about proper aftercare once those beautiful lashes have been applied.
We’ll break down the safest way to apply mega volume lashes so you can ensure natural lashes are protected during the process!
Just like classic and traditional volume lashes, mega volume lash extensions are safe for natural lashes if the extensions are applied correctly. Do you know what is considered a properly applied set of lashes?
First, and most importantly, proper isolation is a must with mega volume lashes. It’s a non-negotiable part of any set of lash extensions. If lashes aren’t properly isolated, the extensions and natural lashes will all stick together. This will cause pain for your lash client and also ruin their natural lashes.
Oh, and it won’t look good! Without proper isolation, you will have a difficult time retaining lash clientele. Who wants to get their lashes done by someone who causes them pain? The saying “beauty is pain” shouldn’t apply to this one.
Also, for a proper set of lashes (classic, traditional volume, or mega volume), you need to use the correct amount of lash adhesive. Lash adhesive adds weight, so if you use too much not only will the extensions and natural lashes all stick together, but you will be adding excessive weight. Additional weight can cause natural lash breakage and poor retention. Nope, we don’t want that.
Lastly, a fan of extensions shouldn’t be too heavy. The weight of the fan is important for long-lasting lashes, avoiding breaking the natural lash, and avoiding the lash extensions from drooping. Mega volume lashes are no different! But, mega volume does take a little more calculation on your end to figure out the weight.
Don’t worry, I’m not talking calculus, just basic math. To do this basic lash math, you just need to know
the lash weight of each diameter you are using to create the fan. By knowing that, you will know how many extensions you can put into your fans to keep your client’s natural lashes healthy and strong.
Was learning the volume lash technique challenging for you? I remember learning volume and how frustrating it was. Your hands are used to doing it one way, and now you have to adjust. A majority of volume lash artists use .07 lash extensions and that diameter is awesome. It gives you that dark lash line with fluff. When doing mega volume lash extensions, you have to use even thinner lash extensions: .05 and .03.
There are some adjustments you’ll have to make to be able to pick up these ultra-thin lashes and create a perfectly symmetrical fan, but you’ll get it!
Symmetrical fans are important in traditional volume lashing, as you know, and even MORE important in mega volume. Creating a fan where the extensions are equally spaced will not only give you a beautiful look, but it will also create a weight balance. A weight balance will give your clients great retention and keep their natural lashes healthy and strong. Weight balance will also give them a beautiful set of lash extensions. Who doesn’t want that?

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last? – Ask the Panel
How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last? – Ask the Panel
November 27, 2018 by The Lash Professional.
Perhaps you sorta, kinda, really want eyelash extensions, but the initial investment leaves you a little uneasy. Or, maybe you are an eyelash technician (or soon-to-be) who is looking to extend the life of your client’s lashes. Regardless, I think we can agree – we all dread the possibility that our beautiful eyelash extensions won’t hold as long as we had hoped. Surely, you have found yourself asking the all-too-common question, how long do eyelash extensions last anyway?
Luckily, we have gathered a diverse girl gang to answer the question for you – ranging from 5 days of experience, up to 10 years! As you may know, the answer is not definitive. In fact, it is far from it! There are too many factors to list that play into lash retention, from adhesive quality and lash weight, to client aftercare and natural lash cycle.
However, with a few small adjustments, as a lash artist or a client, the longevity of your lovely lashes can see a huge difference! So, let’s get down to it. How long do eyelash extensions last? And what can we do to lengthen this number even further?
Rebekah Carden of Magnolia May Lash Bar
Not only is Rebekah Carden the owner and founder of Magnolia May Lash Bar, but she is also the mastermind behind Magnolia Academy! Here, she spends her time passing along her serious lash skills to other soon-to-be lashers. She is a licensed Esthetician who has been in the beauty industry for over ten years, but has been doing solely lashes for 3 years!
How long do you anticipate eyelash extensions to last?
Retention for my clients typically ranges from 3-5 weeks depending on style, length, and technique!
#1 tip for lashers?
Make sure your glue is spot on! That includes the glue viscosity, humidity, and type of glue. I always tell my students to make sure the viscosity and dry time matches where they are in their Lash Game, dry-time wise!
#1 tip for lashees?
Of course, we all know that clients need to avoid oil containing products and cleanse their lashes regularly. We often retail aftercare/cleansers, but not everyone retails Lash safe makeup. I have seen a huge shift in my clients’ retention by retailing lash safe liner and mascara! That way, it’s right there to purchase, and using their regular oil containing products is not as tempting!
Kilee Albano of Lashes with Kilee
Practicing from the heart of Washington State, Kilee Albano has been the Owner, Esthetician, and Lash Artist at Lashes with Kilee for around a year. She began studying in the lash industry after she got eyelash extensions for the first time and started tearing up because she looked just like her mom. “I instantly knew this industry was something special. I wanted to make others feel beautiful and special just like I do when I get mine done.”
How long do you anticipate eyelash extensions to last?
Eyelash extensions have different retention cycles. I usually recommend my clients get their fills every 2-3 weeks, depending on how fast their natural lashes shed.
#1 tip for lashers?
Having a good adhesive glue is a plus for me, but you also want to store it in a cool dark, and dry place. This will help make the glue last longer! Adhesive can be funky sometimes and you have to be very careful with how you’re using it and storing it.
#1 tip for lashees?
Don’t get lashes wet for 24 hours after application, wash your lashes with lash cleaner 2-3 times a week, don’t pull or tug on extensions, don’t use oil-based products around the eyes, no mascara on extensions, brush lashes morning and night, and avoid sleeping directly on your face.
Kinsey Sarchet of Blissful Beauty
Kinsey Sarchet, Owner, Lash Artist, and Esthetician at Blissful Beauty, has been lashing since June 2008! In fact, the industry has changed so much since then, she’s gone through several additional trainings to stay up to date on best practices. She truly has grown with the industry!
How long do you anticipate eyelash extensions to last?
Personally, I expect eyelash extensions to stay on until the natural lash sheds or until I manually remove them due to being grown out.
#1 tip for lashers?
One key element in eyelash extension longevity is looking at the natural lash and applying the appropriate weight for that lash. You can do this by applying the correct length and thickness for that particular lash. This keeps the lashes nice and healthy, along with not maxing out the lash to the point that they shed prematurely or simply fall off.
#1 tip for lashees?
Clean lashes are Happy Lashes! We tell our clients to cleans their lashes daily and after any activity that may cause them to become dirty. Activities like working out, swimming, and of course, daily makeup. We recommend using eyelash extension safe cleanser.
Kirsten Pyle of Aesthetics by Kirsten
Meet Kirsten Pyle, Lash Technician at Aesthetics by Kirsten. She has been a lash technician for only 5 days (as of November 21st, 2018) but has already fallen in love with the industry and The Lash Professional sisterhood!
How long do you anticipate eyelash extensions to last?
I anticipate lash extensions to stay on healthy lashes for 2 to 3 weeks. Even though the natural lifespan of a lash is only 6 to 8 weeks, sleeping on lashes, attaching lashes to the telogen stage of a natural lash, and using oil-based makeup products are all things I account for. So I schedule my clients to come back to fills every 2 to 3 weeks to keep them full and fluffy!
#1 tip for lashers?
Always double check your work. Take the time to go through each individual lash and make sure no one is glued to each other. Your client is trusting you with the look and integrity of their lashes! It’s not about closing a sale, it’s about opening a relationship. The more honest you are about your work, the more opportunities you will have to grow!
#1 tip for lashees?
Cleanse your lashes every day (of course, after waiting 24 hours to get your lashes wet)! Invest in the foaming lash cleanser and a reusable lash wand to clean those lashes daily! You brush your teeth every day, why not your lashes? Also, a bonus tip, if you are a side sleeper, invest in a silk pillowcase. Not only is it great for your lashes, but also your hair!
Kayla Marie Vandel of Pinks the Beauty Boutique
Kayla Marie Vandel is the Owner and Master Lash Artist at the adorable Pinks the Beauty Boutique. Her title “Master Lash Artist” definitely didn’t appear by chance – she’s been lashing since 2012!
How long do you anticipate eyelash extensions to last?
Usually, I find that eyelash extensions lash for around 4-6 weeks with a fill in between!
#1 tip for lashers?
Length and diameter ALWAYS matter. Be good to clients natural lashes!
#1 tip for lashees?
No sleep or crying… duh!! Just kidding. Cleaning them properly every night and sleeping with a silk pillow is the best way to extend the life of your lashes!
Of course, asking lash professionals, “How long do eyelash extensions last” may seem like a loaded question. When it comes down to it, there are simply too many factors to answer this question with confidence! Eyelash Extensions Pros and Cons From Experts - The Lash Professional
Eyelash Extensions Pros and Cons From Experts
December 21, 2018 by The Lash Professional.
Everyone seems to be talking about lash extensions: family, friends, coworkers, and of course, celebrities!
lash extensions is sure tempting, and you’re probably wondering whether or not you should give them a try. If you’re wondering whether lash extensions are for you or not, there’s no better way to find out than by asking the experts! Here are 10 eyelash extensions pros and cons from professional lash artists.
Pros
Enhance Your Natural Beauty
The lash pros at Chic Lash Boutique explain how lash extensions can enhance your facial features and give you a natural glow.
“Extensions lift your eyes naturally by lengthening the lashes with no possibility of adverse effects, as in the case of surgical procedures. They also add depth to your face, resulting in enhanced features to make you look more youthful and graceful.” Chic Lash Boutique is located in Houston, Texas.
Say goodbye to falsies! Stacy Lash and Skin talks about the weightless and natural feel of lash extensions:
“Unlike fake lashes, you get all the drama without the drag. Fake lashes use heavier hard-drying adhesives while lash extension adhesives are light and non-gunky. There’s no clumping and practically no weight.” Stacy Lash and Skin is a spa located in Los Angeles, California.
The talented team at Wakeup Beauty Salon shares the customizable and versatile options that lash extensions offer:
“You can help determine things such as length, fullness, and even permanent color. Adjust the volume and shape of them so that they best match your aesthetic when you look in the mirror every day.” Wakeup Beauty Salon is a full-service salon in California.
No more mascara, no more time-consuming makeup routines! See what Flume Glam Bar has to say about how lash extensions will make your life easier:
“When applied properly, your eyes will look amazing 24/7 with or without makeup. Your lashes will be long and lush, will beautifully accentuate your eyes and many women feel they need less makeup when they have lash extensions.” Fluhme Glam Bar has three locations in Pennsylvania.
The trained technicians at Lash Out explain how all types of natural lashes can benefit from lash extensions:
“Individual Eyelash Extensions are perfect for thin natural lashes that need volume and fullness, shorter natural lashes that need length, and straight natural lashes that require a curl to lift and frame your face.” Lash Out Beauty Bar is located in Naples, Florida.
Cons
Lengthy Lashes Can Mean Lengthy Application Sessions
Good things take time, and fabulous lash extensions are no exception! Here’s what The W Spa has to say about application sessions:
“Appointments for Lash Extensions can take anywhere from 1-2 hours, and if you want to keep up with them you need to come in every 2-4 weeks.” The W Spa is a luxury organic spa in New York.
If oil-based products are part of your facial routine, this point by Princess Lashes might be important for you.
“[Avoid] Oil-based makeup, oil-based cleanser and oil-based make up remover for wetting your eyelashes. The reason for this is that oil-based products can break the semi-permanent glue causing lashes to fall out prematurely and may remove them instantly. “ Princess Lashes is a Luxury Eyelash Extension Salon in Wisconsin.
The lash artists at Sinful Lashes share what preserving your lash extensions entails:
“After your initial set of eyelash extensions, you will receive instructions on how to care for them. Fills are done every three to four weeks depending on care and how quickly your eyelashes grow. An eyelash extension fill takes a shorter time to do and the prices reflect that.” The Sinful Lashes Company is a Lash Salon in Studio City, California.
No water around your eyes, no steam, and no facials. Amazing Lash Studio tells you how to keep your fab new lashes intact for the first 48 hours.
“Minimize the chance of wetting the extensions for the first 48 hours of wear. After that 48-hour period, the adhesive used to apply your eyelash extensions is secure enough to allow you to get right back to your routine. However, keeping away from extensive contact with steam such as in saunas or certain facials is recommended since it can begin to loosen the bond.” Amazing Lash Studio offers its services at several locations worldwide.
Aftercare Is a Must!
You’ll fall in love with your lash extensions, which is why it’s highly important to take care of them. The caring team at Sassy Lashes shares how to take care of your new lashes.
“Make sure your lashes stay clean while you have them. Your natural lashes produce oil and are cleaned as you wash your face. For your extensions, soft baby shampoo in super tiny doses mixed with water can be a great way to cleanse dirt out of them. Be sure to ask your tech what the best way is to clean your extensions during your appointment!” Sassy Lashes is an Eyelash Boutique in Las Vegas.
How do Eyelash Extensions Work? - The Lash Professional
How do Eyelash Extensions Work?
January 14, 2019 by The Lash Professional.
If you’re anything like us, you probably can’t get over the new beauty fad that completely took 2018 by storm and is already making its stamp on 2019. Of course, we’re talking about eyelash extensions! At one time, false eyelash strips were exclusively used for glam makeup statements or perhaps prom night. Now, however, eyelash extensions give women a flawless day-to-day look that ranges from flirty “girl next door” to a bold night out on the town. But, similar to any other beauty trend, it’s normal to ask: How do eyelash extensions work anyway?
What are eyelash extensions?
Before we go into how eyelash extensions work, we will start with the basics. What are eyelash extensions? Put simply, eyelash extensions are thin fibers that resemble natural eyelashes. Using permanent adhesive, these thin fibers are attached to each natural eyelash giving a lengthened appearance of each lash. And, spoiler alert! They look amazing.
Eyelash extensions are typically made of mink, synthetic silk, or synthetic mink. While expensive, mink eyelashes are generally the most natural looking, comfortable, and soft. However, they are also the thinnest and last the shortest amount of time. Synthetic extensions, on the other hand, are most common and tend to be the thickest and heaviest appearance.
How do eyelash extensions work?
The first step of getting your lashes done is selecting the best eyelash shape and size according to your eye shape and desired look. Don’t worry — your eyelash technician will do this for you! Next, while laying on your back, an experienced licensed eyelash technician will place protective pads over your lower lashes and under eyes and have you close your eyes.
Using precise tweezers, your lash artist will take a single eyelash extension, apply adhesive, and place carefully on one of your natural lashes one millimeter above the root. If you opt for volume lashes in a more glamorous, open-eyed look, the process will only differ slightly. Rather than applying just one extension to each lash, your lash artist will first glue a few synthetic lashes together to create a fan. From here, the same process as noted above will be used.
How do I get eyelash extensions?
Now, onto the most important question – how can I get my own eyelash extensions? Thankfully, whichever city you find yourself in, there are most likely plenty of options for you! When selecting your lash artist, be sure to look for someone who is licensed and has adequate experience. You can either find a lash artist who works independently or a technician that works as an extension of a salon. If you want to go to the experts, you can even go to a lash studio that specializes in lashes!
Just remember to do your research and pay attention to reviews. Even if you see someone who has cheaper pricing, remember – you get what you pay for!
