Apply the cream remover at the base of the lash extensions, where they meet your natural lashes, with care and precision. Take your time and prevent skin contact as much as possible. To prevent the substance from getting into your eyes, ensure only a small quanity is used. 

Allow the cream lash remover to rest for the appropriate period mentioned in the product directions. This waiting interval breaks down the adhesive bond.

Choose stainless steel tweezers with a basic design that can be completely cleaned.

Soap and water are your greatest friends for regular tweezer cleaning. Warm water and a liquid hand soap are recommended. Make a lather on your palms and lightly massage the tweezers between your hands. Pay special care to the tip and ensure the entire surface is clean. To eliminate any soap residue, rinse the tweezers under running water.

To reduce bacteria and germs, sanitize your tweezers. Wipe the whole surface of the tweezers with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) using a lint free wipe.  Make careful to coat both the tips fully. Because alcohol evaporates fast, there is no need to rinse. You can also use alcohol wipes, which are easily available at pharmacies.

Submerge your tweezers in a Barbicide solution, making sure they are fully covered. Let them soak for 10 minutes. Avoid soaking for longer, as extended exposure can lead to corrosion. After 10 minutes, remove the tweezers and rinse them thoroughly with water to remove any leftover Barbicide.

After cleaning and disinfecting, it is critical to dry your tweezers properly. Wipe them down with a clean, dry towel to remove any moisture.

Here’s a complete guide on why it’s so important and the exact steps on how to sterilize lash tweezers efficiently to keep your tools (and clients) safe!

How to sterilize lash tweezers isn’t just about hygiene; it’s also crucial for avoiding infections and keeping your tools in top condition. Here’s my go-to method for how to sterilize lash tweezers to keep them safe, sanitary, and ready for every client:

1. Start by Cleaning Off Any Residue

First, wipe down your tweezers to get rid of any lash glue or product residue.

2. Wash with Soap and Warm Water

Rinse your tweezers under warm water, then scrub gently with a bit of antibacterial soap. This step is essential for removing any remaining grime. Rinse them well to avoid any soap residue.

3. Prepare a Barbicide Solution

Follow the instructions on your Barbicide bottle and mix up a fresh solution in a small container. Make sure you’re using the right ratio (usually 1 part Barbicide to 16 parts water) so it’s effective but safe.

4. Soak the Tweezers in Barbicide

Submerge your tweezers completely in the Barbicide solution, making sure they’re fully covered. Let them soak for 10 minutes—don’t leave them in too long, or the metal can start to corrode!

5. Rinse Thoroughly

Once they’re done soaking, take your tweezers out and rinse them under cool, running water to wash off any leftover Barbicide.

6. Dry Them Completely

Pat your tweezers dry with a clean towel. Make sure they’re totally dry before storing them to avoid rusting.

7. Store in a Clean, Dry Case

Keep your freshly sterilized tweezers in a clean, dry case or container to make sure they stay sanitary between clients.

But we get it—sometimes you can’t make it to the salon, and removing them at home becomes necessary. If that’s the case, you’ll want to proceed carefully.

Removing lash extensions at home requires a few supplies to ensure a gentle and effective process. 

Here’s what you’ll need:

Coconut Oil

Lint Free Wipes

Here’s the best way how to remove lash extensions at home safely:

Step 1: Prep Your Space

Before starting, make sure you’re in a clean, well-lit space with all your supplies ready. Removing lash extensions can take some time, so set yourself up comfortably.

Step 2: Apply an Oil-Based Remover

Oil is your best friend here. Grab some coconut oil and apply it to your lash line. Dip a lint free wipe and gently dab the product along your lash line, focusing on the base of the extensions. Avoid tugging or rubbing. Allow the oil to sit for a few minutes to break down the adhesive completely.

Step 3: Gently Remove the Extensions

After letting the oil work its magic, use a clean lint free wipe to gently wipe along your lash line. The extensions should slide off without much effort. If they resist, don’t pull—repeat the oil application and give it a little more time.

Important: Never forcefully pull or pluck lash extensions. This can damage your natural lashes and cause unnecessary pain.

Step 4: Clean Your Lashes

Once the extensions are removed, clean your lash line thoroughly with a lash cleanser. Use lash cleanser on a lint free wipe to wipe away any leftover lashes, oil, or cleanser. Pat your lashes dry with a soft towel and let them air dry naturally.

Hey lash artist!  This week we’re talking about how to remove eyelash extensions.  There are a variety of reasons you might need to do this, so it’s good to have it broken down so there’s no question about how to do it safely.  I’m also going to recommend some products so you can provide the best quality services to your clients.

Unlike eyelash extension application, this isn’t all about protecting the bottom lashes, but your client’s skin.  The skin under your eye is really sensitive and thin, and while remover is totally safe to use and isn’t harsh, it can cause discomfort to your client if the correct safety measures aren’t taken.  Not only that, but the light color of the eye pads against your client’s lashes make it so much easier to see what you’re actually doing!

Be sure that you are placing them comfortably, aka not too high so that your client can’t close their eye comfortably, but not low enough to miss the bottom lashes entirely.

To remove the eyelash extensions, you want to put remover (we humbly recommend TLP’s Eyelash Extension Remover. At The Lash Professional, we really like using Micro Brushes, because they’re small enough to spread the product between the lashes.  We recommend using two at a time and attacking the lashes from both the top of the extensions and underneath the extensions, to really get that remover in there.  Work with the remover and the extensions by coating the extensions from base to tip (focusing on the base, where the lash adhesive is) with remover. After a few minutes, you should see the extensions begin to easily slide off your client’s natural lash.

It’s especially important during this step to be gentle.  Remember, you’re working with adhesive with strength comparable to super glue.  Harsh pulling at extensions when trying to remove them could accidentally pull the natural lashes out. 

After every eyelash extension has been removed, clean the lashes with a lash-safe cleanser.  Wipe the lashes gently to ensure that you got any pesky remover residue.

It’s important to ensure that you’ve cleaned the lashes thoroughly before you remove the eye pads and allow your client to open their eyes.  Again, remover is safe to use, but stings when it gets in your eyes.  That’s definitely a no-go!  Getting lashes (on or off) shouldn’t be a painful process.

This week we’re laying out all the things you need to know to do a lash lift.  There are different supplies you’ll need and steps to follow, so I’ll be linking the necessary supplies for each step!

Lashes are like snowflakes.  Each client’s lashes are unique, so have a consultation with your client before you perform the service.  Some have short lashes and some have lashes for days.  This is why you should always have a variety of lash lift rod and shield sizes on hand.  Not only this, but some clients might want super curly lashes, while some might just want them just a little less straight.  It’s important to have a consultation so you can provide your clients with the look they’re going for, and keep them happy.

To have the best possible results for pretty much any lash service, we want the lashes to be squeaky clean.  Use a gentle lash cleanser and a soft lash cleansing brush to clean your client’s lashes, so the different solutions are able to get to the lashes and not just the oil and debris buildup.  When you’re done cleaning the lashes, make sure they’re dry and apply the eye pads to protect the sensitive under-eye skin!

Once you’ve chosen the correct rod or shield size for your client’s lashes, apply lash lift glue to the back of it.  This is what sticks the rod or shield to your client’s eyelid and keeps it from shifting during the service.  Once the adhesive is tacky, apply the rod or shield as close to the lash line as possible, without touching the lashes.  This will help make sure the lashes can curl around the rod comfortably. 

Now, there are lash rods and shield that won't have to apply glue to. Pay attention to the product description when purchasing. 

You’re going to use the same lash lift adhesive to glue the lashes to the rod or shield. You’re going to want to wait until it’s tacky again. Guide the lashes up onto the rod with whatever tool works best for you.  We personally like to use a curved lash tweezer, because it’s not only comfortable, but it helps really flatten the lashes onto the rod, and spread the adhesive through the lashes.

Additionally, work in sections.  This will help you ensure that every lash is sticking to the rod, and that they’re staying there!  Apply more adhesive as necessary.

Again, use whatever works best for you, but we highly recommend using micro brushes to apply the lash lift solution.  Micro brushes work great, because you only want to apply the sotion to only a section of the lashes, and micro brushes are small enough to allow you to be very precise with application.  Check the processing time of each product, and take into account the conditions of your client’s lashes.

After the processing time is up, you can remove the lash lift solution with a clean micro brush.

Apply the set solution the same way you applied the lift solution. Follow the processing times. 

Repeat Step 6.  Isn’t this easy?

Ah, volume eyelash extensions...the lashes of our dreams.  If you've never done lash extensions before (but want to), you do classic eyelash extensions, or you do volume lashes, but haven't quite found the perfect method yet, this blog post is for you.  By the end of it, you're either going to feel totally empowered to start your lash journey, or you're going to master volume lashes with this technique.  

Any lash artist can do this method, and luckily, this technique works for whatever fan style you're going for.  You know, you're a lash artist for a reason, so let's get you expressing yourself through fans!  This technique is called the pinch method.  Why?  Because you literally pinch the lashes to make a fan.

Put your tweezers on the top and bottom of the lashes, right above the sticky strip that the lashes are attached to.  This is the time to decide how big you want your fan to be.  Think about the natural lash that you're going to put the fan on, and the look that the client wants to go for.  Do you want the fan to be more dense or more narrow?  The more lashes you pull, the bigger the fan.  The less you pull, the smaller.

Pull the section of lashes off of the sticky strip, towards you and up (think a scopping motion).

Remember, the quality of both the lashes and tweezers you use will affect the fans, and even the way they pull off of the strip!

Point the tips of your thumb and index fingers toward your chest, so they're perpendicular to you.  We think that this is the easiest way to pinch the base of the fan to get the desired result.  As you pinch the base of the group of lashes, slightly release pressure on the tweezers, allowing the lashes to move.

Pressing the tip of the tweezer into your thumb, helps you maintain control of the lashes, even when you release pressure on the tweezers. Think of your thumb as your anchor point.

Once you have the base of that fan in a tight V shape, dip it into the adhesive up to 1mm.  Just like there is a sweet spot for our tweezers, there's an adhesive sweet spot.  Too much can weigh down the natural lashes and close your fans, but too little will have your client coming back complaining about poor retention.
