The #1 Wispy Eyelash Extension Style Chart

The #1 Wispy Eyelash Extension Style Chart

November 30, 2022 by The Lash Professional.

Closeup view of eye.

Years back, people could only get classic eyelash extensions, which are one individual lash extension per natural lash. But people wanted more choices and styles as aesthetic trends evolved, so new styles were developed. The most popular style now is wispy lashes, which are denser, fluffier, and have more volume than other types of eyelashes.

If you're an eyelash extension specialist looking to perfect your wispy style, or a client trying to find the best style for your next appointment, this wispy eyela

What Does Having Wispy Eyelashes Mean?

Wispy lashes are achieved by having lash extensions that are thinner at the base and gradually get thicker toward the ends. This style is also called “feather” lashes. The wispy lash style gives your eyes a natural but enhanced look. The preferred effect is to make your eyes look wider and more open, which is perfect for an everyday look. Wispy eyelashes can also look gorgeous and glamorous for special occasions.

How Do I Achieve the Wispy Look?

There are several ways to achieve wispy lashes. The main goal is to create a fluffy, voluminous effect.

You can either:

  • Use wispy lashes that are already pre-made. These come in various lengths, thicknesses, and curvatures
  • Make your own wispy lashes by cutting classic lashes into smaller sections.
  • Use mascara to try and replicate the wispy lash look.

If you're a lash technician, you'll know how to achieve the wispy look, particularly with the first two methods. If you're a lash client, make sure to communicate your desired look to your technician.

Boost your gaze with The Lash Professional's classic lash extensions, offering timeless beauty. Opt for natural eyelash extensions to achieve a subtle, everyday elegance. Shop with confidence for premium classic and natural lash extensions that effortlessly elevate your look. Purchase The Lash Professional's quality products for a stunning lash experience. Find the perfect balance between classic and natural lash extensions to suit your style. Choose excellence; choose The Lash Professional for a boost of beauty that leaves a lasting impression. Get the best in natural and classic eyelash extensions – your key to effortlessly captivating eyes.

Now that you know all about wispy lashes let's move on to the wispy eyelash extension style chart and styles.

Wispy Lash Styles

There are various wispy lash styles that you can achieve, depending on the length, thickness, and curvature of the lashes. The three primary styles are classic, volume, and hybrid.

Classic wispy lashes are perfect for those who want a more natural look. The classic wispy style uses thinner, shorter lashes that are applied one by one to your existing lashes. This method is great for people with sparse lashes or those who want a softer look.

Volume wispy lashes use multiple, thinner lashes to create a fuller, more dramatic look. This style is perfect for special occasions or for anyone who wants to add more volume and drama to their lashes. It is done by applying 2-6 thin lashes to each of your existing lashes.

Hybrid wispy lashes are a mix of classic and volume wispy styles. This method uses both thinner and thicker wispy lashes to create a unique, intermediate look. You can achieve this look by mixing classic and volume wispy lashes or by applying classic wispy lashes to the inner corner of your eye and volume wispy lashes to the outer corner.

How Does Lash Mapping Help With Wispy Lashes?

Lash mapping is the process of plotting out where each individual lash extension will be placed. This is done by using a fine-tipped pen or Lash Stylist Tool to mark the placement of each lash on a disposable adhesive strip. The lash stylist then uses the lash map as a guide to apply the extensions.

Lash mapping is particularly important for wispy lashes because of the wispy lash style's graduated look. You want to make sure that the extensions are applied in a way that creates a natural, fluffy look. Lash mapping helps to achieve this by allowing the lash stylist to be precise with their placement.

Applying Wispy Lashes

The first step is to prepare your work area by setting up all of your supplies. You'll need:

  • Lash extensions in the style and length of your choice
  • Lash adhesive
  • Lash tweezers
  • A lash brush

Once you have all of your supplies, you're ready to start applying the lashes!

Step 1: Start by cleaning the natural lashes with an oil-free cleanser. This will help the lash adhesive to better adhere to the lashes.

Step 2: Next, take a wispy lash and dip it into the adhesive. Wait a few seconds for the adhesive to become tacky before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Using your lash tweezers, pick up the wispy lash and place it on top of the natural lash, as close to the base of the lash line as possible.

Step 4: Gently press down on the wispy lash to secure it in place. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have achieved your desired look.

Step 5: Once you're finished, use your lash brush to lightly comb through the lashes and separate any that are stuck together.

And there you have it! Now you know all about wispy lashes and how to achieve the wispy look. Remember to bookmark this blog post or save it somewhere so you can refer back to it the next time you're getting lash extensions. And don't forget to share it with your friends!

Kentucky Eyelash Extension Certification Requirements The Lash Professional

Kentucky Eyelash Extension Certification Requirements

Kentucky Eyelash Extension Certification Requirements

November 18, 2022 by The Lash Professional.

Bridge in Kentucky.

If you want long, luscious lashes, it is essential that you find a qualified professional to apply your eyelash extensions. Poor application can lead to eye damage and a negative experience overall. If you're thinking of becoming an eyelash technician yourself, make sure you understand the state requirements for licensure first.

Kentucky offers a variety of options for certification, training, and education. In this article, we will talk about the specific requirements for certification in Kentucky and any specifics to know about the process and training.

Why Get Certified As a Lash Extension Artist in Kentucky?

As we mentioned, eyelash extensions are a delicate service. They must be applied correctly to avoid damaging the natural lashes or causing any irritation to the eyes. Therefore, it is important that lash artists be properly trained and licensed to provide this service.

In Kentucky, there are no specific laws or regulations regarding eyelash extensions. However, most salons and spas will require that their employees be licensed cosmetologists, estheticians, or eyelash extension artists. This is to ensure that their employees are properly trained and qualified to provide eyelash extension services.

The Lash Professional offers certification courses that are specific to eyelash extensions. These courses will teach you everything you need to know about eyelash extensions, from the different types of lash extensions available to the proper application techniques. Once you complete the course and pass the final exam, you will receive a certificate that you can show to your potential employers.

Eyelash Extension Certification Requirements Kentucky

As mentioned, eyelash technicians in Kentucky will need to have a cosmetology permit issued by the Kentucky Board of Cosmetologists (KBC). The requirements to avail a cosmetology license include 1,500 hours of completion of a cosmetology course and 12th-grade education. Once you have completed your 1500 hours, you can apply for a cosmetology license by filling out the necessary examination application. You will need to pass both a written and practical exam.

You also need to undergo additional sanitation training to provide eyelash extension services. The board office requires submission of the completed permit application, a copy of your current government photo ID and passport photo, as well as the completion of an infection control course. Keep in mind that the Board will not accept an Infection Control Course certification if it is over one year old. The Kentucky law also requires that certified lash experts work in a facility that is licensed by the KBC.

The Lash Professional is an accredited institution that offers eyelash extension courses.

How to Run a Flawless Eyelash Extension Consultation

Lash Pro Tips: What To Say To a Client With a Picture Request for Eyelash Extensions

Because of the growing popularity of eyelash extensions, it's likely that most of your new clients coming in for the service will have an idea of the look they want beforehand. Whether they have friends or coworkers who get eyelash extensions, or they have seen pictures on the internet (likely on Instagram), there is a high chance that they have a pretty good idea of “the look” they are going for with their lashes.

It is quite common for clients to bring pictures of eyelash extensions to their eyelash extension consultation and appointment. This gives the lash artist examples of what they like or dislike on others. Pictures can be very helpful and are a great way for you to get an idea of the general look that the client desires.

However, a client can bring in a picture of eyelash extensions that may not be the best option for them when taking their natural lashes, eye shape, and daily makeup routine into account. While it’s important to listen to the client's wants and needs, it’s also your job as a lash specialist to advise them of their best options, given their natural lashes and their unique lash pattern. This can be achieved by knowing how to do an eyelash extension consultation.

Because every client has a unique natural lash pattern and lash growth, it is important to treat each client as an individual when it comes to choosing the eyelash extensions you will apply. A lash artist could use the exact same lengths, curl, and diameter on two different clients, and both sets will turn out completely different. This is what makes lashing an art form!

How To Do An Eyelash Extension Consultation

How do you decide which eyelash extensions to use? By observing, and by asking questions!

One of the most important parts of the lash appointment is the eyelash extension consultation. This is not only for you to get an idea of what the client hopes to achieve with the service but also gives you an opportunity as the stylist to set reasonable expectations prior to applying the lashes.

Here are a few things to take into consideration:

1. Observe the client’s natural lashes

Do they have few or many lashes? Are their lashes short or long; thick or thin? How do their lashes grow? (Straight, down, overlapping?)

This will help you determine if you should be using classic or volume lashes, as well as the curl and diameter that will work best. It’s also important to note if the client has any existing damage to their natural lashes, as this can impact the service.

2. Take into account the client’s eye shape

Are their eyes circular or almond? Do they want a look that will open up their eyes more, or that draws out in the corners?

Remember: if they have small or almond-shaped eyes, a “cat eye” look can make their eyes appear droopy or more tired.

3. Ask questions!

  1. What are they getting the lashes for? For a special occasion or everyday convenience?
  2. What kind of look are they going for? Natural or dramatic? (*Keep in mind, “natural” means something different to everyone.)
  3. What is their makeup routine?
  4. Simple or complex? This will help you decide if they need lash extensions that are easy to take care of or if they are okay with a higher-maintenance style.
  5. Do they have any lash concerns? (Sensitivity, loss, etc.)
  6. Do they have any allergies or medical conditions that could affect the service?
  7. Do they have any time constraints? (I.e., need to be able to remove the lash extensions themselves, or might not be able to come in for fills as often)

Important Consent Forms To Prepare Prior To The Procedure

Consent forms are not mandatory, but they are highly recommended to avoid future complications. After all, you want to be protected in case anything goes awry!

Here are a few eyelash extension consent forms that we recommend you have your clients fill out before the eyelash extension service:

Allergy/Irritation Test Consent Form

If the client has never had eyelash extensions, it is important to perform an allergy test 24-48 hours before the appointment. This is to ensure that the client does not have an allergic reaction to the lash adhesive.

Lash Extension Consent Form

This form should go over the different types of eyelash extensions and the pros and cons of each type. It is important that the client understands that there is a risk of damage to their natural lashes if the eyelash extensions are not applied or removed properly.

Medical History Consent Form

This form should cover any medical conditions or allergies that the client has that could affect the eyelash extension service.

When To Say "No" To a Client and How To Do It

There are certain cases where it is not recommended to apply eyelash extensions or where you, as the stylist, should use extra caution.

Here are a few examples that should be considered during the eyelash extension consultation:

  • If the client has active blepharitis, this is an inflammation of the eyelid that can cause redness, itching, and burning. If left untreated, it can lead to eyelash loss.
  • If the client has had a recent lash lift or tint, they will need to wait 2-4 weeks before getting eyelash extensions.
  • If the client has any current eye infections, this includes pink eye, styes, or conjunctivitis.
  • If the client has had recent eyelid surgery, they will need to wait at least 6 weeks before getting eyelash extensions.
  • If the client has very sensitive skin or eyes, they may not be a good candidate for eyelash extensions.

If you are unsure about a client’s case, it is always best to err on the side of caution.

Saying “no” to a client can be difficult, but it is important to do what is best for both the client and your business. Be sure to explain your concerns and why you are not able to provide the service. Thank them for their understanding, and let them know that you would be happy to provide a different service, postpone the session, or wait for them to visit a medical professional (if needed).

Between asking the right questions and observing the client’s natural lashes, you should be able to come up with a game plan, and then be able to explain which lashes will work best for the client and why. Often, your clients will come to the eyelash extension consultation with an idea of what they want, but they will also be looking for a bit of guidance.

Remember: you are the lash expert, so gather the information you need, and then be confident in your decisions!

A thorough eyelash extension consultation is essential to providing a great eyelash extension service. As long as you ask the right questions, are clear with the client about what you are going to do, and are confident in your ability to do your best work, we can almost guarantee that your client will leave happy and feeling uniquely beautiful with their new lashes!

HAPPY LASHING!

Lash Education: Eye Infections

Lash Education: Eye Infections.

School is in session, lash babes! Today we are going to learn about different types of eyelash extension infections and how to lower the risk of infections.

When the eye or surrounding eye area is exposed to certain bacteria or organisms, eye infections can occur. Lash education is vital: as a lash professional, you must educate your clients on the importance of hygiene to keep their beautiful eyes free of infection.

If your client displays any of the following symptoms of an eyelash extension infection, we recommend not proceeding with the service until the client has been treated by a healthcare professional, and symptoms have cleared.

However, it is up to you and your best judgment. In some cases, when the symptoms are not contagious, (such as with allergic conjunctivitis), it can be safe to proceed with written permission from a medical professional (basically, a doctor’s note).

Listed below are the most common types of eyelash extension infections you may see and their symptoms.

Lash Extension Infections

There are several common types of eye infections you might encounter with your clients. It’s important to know the difference between them and know when it’s safe to proceed with your service.

Let's briefly outline each of these lash extension infections so you can stay educated, girl!

1. Allergic Conjunctivitis

When eyes are exposed to allergens (such as pet dander, pollen, dust, mold, etc.), they become watery, red, and itchy. This is the most commonly occurring infection among clients and can be tricky. Although allergies and allergic reactions are not contagious from one client to the next, applying lash extensions to already irritated eyes can worsen the symptoms a bit, or sometimes drastically. This eyelash extension infection is not lash extension related, but lash professionals should still be aware.

2. Blepharitis

Blepharitis is when lash follicles are red and inflamed. This is caused by bad hygiene, allergies, mites, dandruff, and certain medications. We recommend not proceeding with the service for this eyelash extension infection, as the reaction/symptoms are likely to worsen.

3. Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is an eye infection that inflames the conjunctiva of the eye, causing the eye to turn pink or in some cases, red. Commonly known as Pinkeye, this contagious infection is easily spread. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, allergies, or even lash extensions if they are not applied properly. Do not proceed with the service until the client is treated, and symptoms have fully cleared.

4. Demodex

Parasites found inside pores and hair follicles can cause infection and inflammation. These are called eye mites. Mites live inside pores and can be hard to spot or distinguish. However, if eyes are irritated or inflamed at all, it could be Demodex and we recommend not proceeding with lash extensions. The symptoms of this lash extension infection include itchy, watery, and irritated eyes.

5. Stye

A stye is a bacterial infection of the sebaceous glands, causing a red, painful bump or inflamed area of the eye. Styes can occur when the hair follicle is clogged and irritated. Although not contagious, styes require hot compresses in order to clear up. We recommend not proceeding with the service until the stye has cleared. You'll know it's gone when the lump disappears and the eye is no longer red or inflamed.

Does Your Client Have an Eyelash Extension Infection? Things To Watch Out For

Keep an eye out for these symptoms in your clients:

  • Excessive tearing
  • Itchy eyes
  • Red or pink eyes
  • Crusting of the lash line
  • Burning sensation
  • Swelling of the eyelids
  • Sensitivity to light

If you notice any of these symptoms, ask your client if they have been to another lash artist or lash tech recently. If they say yes, ask for the name and number of the lash professional so you can speak with them directly. It’s always best to get two lash professional opinions before proceeding with the service.

If your client has not been to a different lash artist recently, then it’s time to have a chat with them about their lash hygiene habits. Are they using oil-based products near their lash line? Not cleansing their lash line properly? These are all things that can lead to infection and should be avoided at all costs.

How To Give Clients Helpful Tips On Preventing Extension Infections

As a lash professional, you have the power to prevent lash extension infections before they start. Here are some tips you can share with your clients to help them avoid lash extension infections:

  • Use a lash cleanser daily to cleanse the lash line and remove any build-up of dirt, oil, or makeup.
  • Avoid using oil-based products near the lash line, as this can break down the lash adhesive and cause lash extensions to fall out.
  • Be gentle when cleansing the lash line, as rubbing harshly can irritate the skin and lead to infection.
  • Sleep on your back to avoid squishing your lashes and causing them to fall out.
  • If you have any type of eye infection, lash extensions should be avoided until the infection has cleared.
  • Visit your lash artist regularly for lash extension fills to keep your lash line looking its best.

By following these simple tips, you can help your clients avoid lash extension infections and keep their lash lines looking beautiful and healthy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can eyelash extensions cause styes?

Technically, yes. Eyelash extensions can cause cross-contamination to happen and styes to form. This is why it is crucial to never do lash extensions on a client with a stye. You don’t want to transfer the eye infection to another client.

How do I get rid of an eye infection?

We recommend you seek help from a medical professional or eye doctor if you or your client shows signs or symptoms of an eye infection.

How do I prevent eyelash extension infections?

Prevent eyelash extension infections by keeping your tools and station sanitized at all times. Do not proceed to do lash extensions on any client who is showing signs of infection. This will protect your other clients and yourself from catching an eye infection. This is why we recommend taking all the necessary precautions to avoid any issues, such as keeping your station, kit, and tools clean at all times.

Avoid Eye Infections at Your Salon

It is your job to ensure that your station, tools, and hands are free from bacteria that could spread infection or disease. Remember to never apply lash extensions to clients who show any signs of these infections.

We also recommend having all new clients sign a waiver and release form to protect yourself. This form is vital to your lash business, as it is a form of insurance and can protect you from certain liabilities that could occur. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Eyelash Infection Prevention Checklist For Your Salon

  • Sanitize your station before each lash service.
  • Sanitize all lash tools before each lash service.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before each lash service.
  • Never apply lash extensions to a client who is showing signs of infection.
  • Have all new clients sign a waiver and release form.
  • Keep up with lash extension fills to prevent lash breakage and infection.

By following these simple tips, you can help prevent lash extension infections in your salon and keep your clients safe and healthy.
